“Ray?”

My best friend stared at me in disbelief. He looked different from when I last saw him. He was more muscular now, and even in the near pitch blackness, I could see the dark circles under his eyes.

“Ray what are you doing out here?” I ask starting to pull myself to a stand. He doesn’t answer my question. Instead he tells me to run. Run? Why? From what?

I get the answers to my questions when someone slams into me from behind. [A/N I just realized how inappropriate that sounded, oops] The new person, immediately, grabs me by the back of my shirt and pulls me up. They push me against a tree. The back of my head hit’s the hard surface, making pain shoot through my skull.

The boy, yes he has been given a gender now, despite the beard starting to grow on his chin, could not have been that much older than Ray, his eyes sparkled with a murderous glint. “Ray,” he said holding his arm out toward my friend “The stake”

That’s when it hit me. This guy was a vampire hunter. He wanted to kill me. And ray was helping him. He had joined the hunters, knowing what I was. That bastard! No wait, Ray hadn’t moved. He was still standing at the edge of the clearing with the same expression on his face. “Ray!” the guy called turning his attention to Ray, but still keeping me pinned to the tree. “Come on!” He blinked and shook his head.

The guy sighed and I took advantage of his distraction. I lifted my hands and pushed him away as hard as I could. I was expecting much, just for him to let go so I could make a run for it. Instead he flew away from me, slamming into a tree on the opposite side of the clearing.

“Holy shit” Ray exclaimed. I stood there gasping, I forgot I could do stuff like that. “Lexi, you need to get out of here.” Ray says in a quiet voice, while slowly walking over to his friend, who seems to have gone unconscious. I decide to take his advice and run across the clearing back into the trees.

I’m so lost, I just need to find Mikey and get home. Wait a second, Mikey. “MIKEY!” I scream at the top of my lungs. “Lexi!” His voice is faint but I can still hear it. I run toward the direction of his voice. It was only a few seconds before I ran right into him.

“Fuck Lexi are you okay?” he asks grabbing my wrists preventing me from falling back. “H-hunters” I mumble shivering. It was cold, I was wet; I just wanted to go home. “Shit” Mikey says “I’m such an idiot” He pulls me closer to him and I wrap my arms around his waist and hug him. “Can we just go home?’ I ask. He shakes his head and I groan. “Why not?” “Well a. I left the blood at the pond and we’re almost out at home. B. I need to talk to the hunters” I let go and back away from him.

“Are you insane?” I ask in a voice that was nearly loud enough to be considered a yell. “You want to talk to them? They’ll kill us” Mikey smiles and pulls me back through the path of destruction I had created trying to find him. “They won’t kill us” he tells me. “Oh really? Cause one of them just tried to kill me”

Why won’t he understand? He’s just going to get us in trouble. “That’s only because they don’t know you’re with me” I look at him confused. Upon seeing my expression he sighs “The leaders used to be friends with Frank, Gerard, and me, in high school.” Oh. Well now that explains a lot.

“So who tried to kill you anyway?” Mikey asks after a moment. ”Um, this really muscly dude, with blonde hair, blue eyes, and a lip ring” I answer, describing my attacker. “That’s Bob. And who else? You used plurals” Fucking hell.

I couldn’t tell Mikey that my best friend had joined them. Something about Mikey and Ray doesn’t sit well in my stomach. Maybe I could make something up. But what if no one looked like what I came up with? “Lexi” Mikey said in a stern voice, bring my attention back to him. I sigh. If Mikey and I were going to work as a couple, then I had to stop hiding things from him. Besides it’s not like there was ever anything going on between Ray and me anyway.

“You remember my friend that I went to when I ran away?” Mikey nods “He was the other one” he nods again and we reach the clearing. The pair of hunters is still there. Bob is, thankfully, okay and on his feet again in the middle of a heated argument with Ray.

“It’s your fault she got away Toro! If you had just given me the stake-”

“She was my friend Bob; I couldn’t just let you kill her!”

“Was, Ray, was”

Mikey clears his throat to get their attention. They turn to us. “Oh hey Mikey-” Bob stops when he notices me. His confusion washes over me. “Yeah hey Bob,” Mikey says “This is my girlfriend Lexi, I’d appreciate it if you and the rest of the hunters didn’t kill her”
