Shock overflowed me

Shock overflowed me. Silence ambushed the ambience inside the dining room. Ryker closed his eyes at his proclamation, and I could feel culpability and depression assassinating him. He clenched his hands into his fists, inhaling deep breaths to calm himself as he juddered. Tears rushed down his pale cheeks.

'Ryker . . .'

He peeled his eyelids open and looked at me. My mouth was parted open slightly. My eyes were brimming with tears, and I instantly felt Ryker's heart bawl at the sight. Then, he looked at Malum, who merely bit her smiling lips, as if amused and suppressing a laugh. His blood boiled with vexation, fused with guilt and sadness.

'Ryker.' My voice cracked as my brother snapped his gaze to me. 'You stabbed Mom?'

'Aqua . . . it's not what you think. I-I didn't do it . . . I mean, it was me . . . But it wasn't my fault . . . well, it sort of was . . . I mean –' Ryker sighed with frustration as he struggles to explicate his reasons. 'It wasn't me,' he said slowly. 'I was possessed by a Spiritual Demon. I didn't know what I was doing . . . well, technically, I did – but that's not the point! I couldn't control my own body, my own movements. The Spiritual Demon was too strong. I-I'm sorry.'

'Is that why you left me?' I demanded.

He nodded. 'Dad and I managed to get rid of the Evitual, but apparently I stole some of the Evitual's dark energy – which meant that the evilness could get out of hand and cause destruction. I didn't want to harm you, sis, so I decided to leave Boston and live with Uncle Davis in England.'

My eyes averted to my uncle. 'You knew?' I whispered. 'You and Noelle . . . you both knew and you never told me?!'

'Aqua –' my uncle tried to reason but I interjected with: 'Uncle, you could've told me! Ry, you could've told me. If you did, I could've helped you. What were you scared of?'

'Mom told me not to tell you,' Ryker explained. 'But when you turned fourteen, she said you will find out about everything. And when I was in England, I got possessed by two more Evituals, and one of them is hosting my body. He's called Blade. Remember Valac and the dragon? It wasn't me who killed them. It was Blade. I allowed Blade to take full control for the first time.'

I released a trembling sigh, closing my eyes monetarily, processing all the information. 'Did you think I will never trust you,' I asked quietly, re-opening my eyes and congregating them with his gunmetal ones, 'because of the Evitual?'

'Yes,' he responded candidly. 'I thought you will see me as a monster.'

'I don't!' I snapped, a sentiment of unfaithfulness and hurt deluging my body. 'Ryker, no matter what you do, no matter what you say or what happens to you, I will continue to trust you. You're my brother. You may be annoying, you may be an asshole, you may be boring me to death sometimes, and you may have left me all alone but I still trust you. What hurts the most, Ry, is that you never told me the truth. You lied to me, Ry. You lied all this time.'
