"There's nothing left but I'm not leaving"
-Starset.
When you're as stubborn as yours truly, you tend to find yourself in tricky situations. Or maybe the only happens to me.
Being the odd one at school isn't fun at all. Well, you get attention from every miserable soul in this torture facility. Unfortunately, it's the bad type of attention. Poor, ugly, orphan. These words seemed too familiar to me by the time I reach the second semester of my senior year in high school.
Living in a society like ours, there are no secrets. So when my parents died four months ago in an accident, the whole community seemed to know the news before I even did
After their death, I was left alone. We didn't have any relative and I found myself almost homeless. I felt naked, abused and angry. So damn angry. How dare mom and dad leave me all alone like that? Why did they do that to me?
Maybe because my parents were famous scientists in the science and technology ministry or maybe we simply was a very noisy society, either way I felt that every person I encountered everywhere were looking at me with pity. Or maybe it was just me and no one really paid me that much attention.
And since I have no relatives and no guardians to take me, I was sent to the Tides house.
The Tides house was an orphanage that the married couple, Mr. and Mrs. Tides, managed
The house wasn't all that very suitable for any human being to live in but it was better than the cold bitter concrete of the street.
We were supposed to be healthy. We were supposed to live long. We were supposed to be intelligent. The technology and the science were supposed to be perfect. Accidents were something that rarely, rarely happen. Why did my parents had that accident when the percentage of accident happening was 1%? Why did my parents have to be the one accidents that might happen?
We live in a high-tech functioning dome. Dome Mika. That was its name.
After the nuclear apocalypse, The world was destroyed. Many lost their lives. The survivor built facilities that developed into the domes to protect them from the nuclear radiations.
However, the first generation didn't live in the dome that easily. People had to undergo a test first before granting the permission to enter the dome and survive inside. The test was simply a bio-scan. They made sure that the person was 100% clear from any radiations. If, it happened a lot, they found a 0.999999999999% of exposure the person wouldn't be granted the permission to pass into the dome. That rule didn't differentiate between man, woman or even babies and small children.
"All for the greater good"
As Chancellor Starmend always said.
The governing system in the dome consisted of the council and the sector security division. These two were the arms that moved everything inside the dome.
We trust the Council. We believe in sector security. We are thankful for the dome. We are blessed.
That was the motto of everyone living in the dome. It used to be my motto too. I used to be brainwashed just like the rest. That was before I was slapped awake and saw the rotten nature of our system. I smelled the stench of the many skeletons that the higher ups buried deep in the ground in order to reach their place.
We human never learn do we? We always shine on the account of others death.
That how we've been living for nearly a decade. Nothing changed. Nothing unusual. Life inside the dome was as mundane as it could ever get.
"Oi, Moons. Why don't you just go stay in that orphanage you live in"
Regina was giggling with some of her dolls. I believe they thought that was funny statement or something.
I ignored the empty minded girls, closed my locker and walked towards my next class.
For some odd reason, my classmate found that becoming an orphan was something to be bullied for. Not that their idiotic remarks ever bothered me. I used to wonder though, how did these brains of them work? Or maybe that was the reason, they didn't really have any brains. That couldn't be true though. No human being was born without a brain. At least no one we know of.
At the end I came to the conclusion that they are vain and bored people that have nothing better to do in their life. In fact after some time I found myself pitting them.
Reaching history room, I found only Morgan there waiting for the start of the class. Morgan Dens. He was a decent guy, a bit on the shy side. His parents were very well-known artists. Morgan though didn't have a single thread of that talents his parents mastered.
Last year he was my partner in our art project. I hated art more than I used to do after that project. No need for details.
"Hi, Morgan"
I greeted him as I took the seat behind him.
Morgan turned to give me a shy smile with a faint hello before looking back to the front.
I didn't have any friends.
Before the accident people didn't use to treat me as if I was filth. They would talk nice to me. They would greet me in the hallways but I never really had a friend.
Maybe Morgan was my friend? Nah but he was the only one who was treating me as if I was a normal human being. That was good enough I believed.
Two minutes later, the warning bell ringed and all the student came attacking the seats in the rooms. Not seconds later, Ms.Doovs came.
Ms.Doovs. A woman in her early fifties, unmarried and honestly awful. The only thing I admire about the woman was her dedication for history.
It was believed that the reason behind her being unmarried was because she was married to history. Of course being unmarried had nothing to do with her very, very bad personality. Of course.
"Alright, class. Today is a special day. Today marks the 60th anniversary to the great green mission. The mission that our brave soldiers sacrificed themselves for the greater good" Ms.Doovs said smiling at us.
The Great Green Mission. The pride of our nation. The mission that took place sixty years ago. The mission that 20 soldiers lost their lives in it. The mission that made every last one of us people fear talking about the outside world ever again.
