Wearing a turtleneck year-round is hell. In Maine,it's only cold for 4 months, and all the other seasons are hot and humid. But if that's what it takes to ensure the wrong person doesn't get a glance at your neck,it's worth it.You and Patrick have this bitter-sweet relationship, but mainly bitter. He became infatuated with you only a month ago,and you're surprised he isn't bored with you yet.
It all started off small. He would stare at you in the hallways, then follow you to class, then follow you home. Your parents called the sheriff, but Patrick used his charm to get off with nothing but a warning. You had no choice but to confront him yourself.
"Look, creep. I don't know what your deal is,but stop following me home." You made sure to drag out that last part, for emphasis.
"Creep? That's not my name, babe." He brushed a lock of hair out of your face, and you cringed.
"You know my name. I know you do." And he just simply laughed and walked away.
And since that day you couldn't seem to shake him off.Rumors were going around about kids already figuring out who their soulmate was,and you were getting anxious. You wanted to know, but at the same time you didn't. You didn't want to get married, not now. And plus,it could be someone you've never even met,or worse, someone you don't even like.
About a year ago,you decided to start wearing a turtleneck until you were sure you knew who your soulmate was. You didn't want to spend the rest of your life alone, and especially not with the wrong person.
When Victor invited you to go see a movie with him,you were surprised. Vic had never shown any interest in you,not even when you would hang around them. You agreed though, because you knew how quiet he was,and figured he was just too shy to talk to you.
You didn't wear a turtleneck that night.
You two met up outside of the theater, him in a windbreaker and cargo pants, you in a V-neck sweater and shorts.
He smiled when you walked up to him,and you blushed a little. The thought of Vic having a crush on you seemed far-fetched,so asking the following question seemed right to you.
"This isn't a date..okay?" When his smile faltered, you immediately felt bad. But it came back as quickly as it left.
"'Course not. C'mon,I already bought your ticket."
You thanked him,and he led you into the theater.Neither of you had noticed the figure watching you from around the corner.
====================================
After it was over, the sky had darkened immensely, and you had to get home before curfew.
"You mind if I walk you home? I just don't like the thought of you walking around alone while some madman is running around."
"Yeah, thanks Vic." During the few blocks you two walked down, you talked about nothing but school and your friends. Then, you just walked in comfortable silence. Until you weren't comfortable anymore.
When Victor pulled you into the woods and pinned you down against a tree,it was like a nightmare. He was all of a sudden so rough, and you felt as if you had floated out of your body and were looking down at the whole situation.
"Let me see your neck,Y/n! Turn around!"
"No!" You screamed as loud as you could, you screamed and screamed until he cupped his hand over your mouth.
"Goddamnit Y/n,I really like you,and I don't want to hurt you. Just listen to me! I know you're my soulmate! So just turn the fu-"
Seconds after you bit his hand,Victor came crashing down, and hands pulled you off of the tree and into a tight hug.
"Get off of me!" You slammed your fists into the chest, then a familiar voice stopped you from continuing.
"It's me! I couldn't let him look." Patrick released you and when you looked up at him,he was eyeing Victor's body like a maniac.
"Is he..?" Patrick shook his head no,and cupped your face in his hands.
"I'm getting you home."
"Wait! How did you find us?"
He continued walking out of the woods the way you had just entered. You had to walk quickly to keep up with him.
"I knew what he wanted to do. He told all 3 of us this morning.""What do you mean 'what he wanted to do'? That little stunt he pulled back there?!"
He looked at you with a 'duh' expression written across his face.
You two arrived at your front porch, but you needed more answers.
"Patrick, there's something you aren't telling me. Spill."
He looked at the ground as he said,"Vic was getting anxious that everyone had already found their special someone, and he didn't care if he found his soulmate,he jut wanted to find someone. Anyone."
"So he didn't even really like me?" You say,half-heartedly. You knew you were right, and you should've trusted trusted your gut.
"No. I mean,he thought you were cute and sweet, but he didn't like you,no. He just thought you'd be a good wife."
You stood there, angry and speechless. Until one last thought crossed your mind.
"So why did you follow us? By yourself?"
"The other two didn't care. It wasn't their problem."
As he turned around to leave, you grabbed his shoulder. When he looked up at you from the bottom step, something in you took over. Something you had felt brewing for a long time. Now,face to face with someone with a gory past and an inhuman personality, you leaned in. You stopped just before his lips, teasing him. You felt his breathing stop for a moment, then he placed his hand on the back of your head, and brought you the rest of the way.
The kiss was rough and passionate, there was a yearning, from both of you. A yearning of love and lust, and when you pulled apart,he didn't even feel the need to check your neck. He knew.
You both knew.
