"Hurry up Keith!" Lance called from ahead.
"I'm hurrying! Just give me a minute."Keith yelled as he approached a large tree. He sat down next to the fellow five year old at the base of the trunk and tried to catch his breath.
"Slowpoke." Lance laughed as he leaned his head back into the bark.
"No way, your just too fast!" Keith replied as he jabbed his elbow into Lances side.
"Ow! That hurt!" Lance yelped as he jerked backwards.
"Hey Lance, will you promise me something?" Keith said looking at the blue sky.
"Ya, what?"
"Promise that you will never forget me after I leave for Texas. And that we will always be together."
"Okay, promise." Lance smiled as the two toddlers linked pinkies securing their promise forever.

"Don't forget our promise Keith." Lance whispered as he pulled his best friend into a tight hug. Tears streamed down the Cuban boys tan cheeks.
"I won't. Don't you ever forget either best friend." Keith cried as he finally let go of their embrace. He walked over to his new foster parents and looked back one last time at his best friend and waved goodbye.
"Bye Keith! I'll miss you!" Lance cried as he held onto his mother Camille's yellow dress.
Keith walked through security with his "parents" and walked into a life he never wanted.
