We board the plane on the outskirts of our district. We wave goodbye to our loved ones because who knows, we may never see them again. Cathy leads us into a room with a t.v. and a couch. She takes a seat and beckons for us to do the same.
"Alright children-" Cathy begins but gets inturrupted by Nathan.
"We aren't kids." Nathan sneers. His eyes look dead.
"Well of course you're kids. Otherwise you wouldn't be in the games." Cathy rambles.
"Why are kids in the games?!" Nathan yells. "Why are the kids, the soldiers?!" with that he storms out and down a corridor with rooms.
"Oh my, this is going to be a lovely trip." Cathy sighs to no one in particular. Suddenly my eyelids get heavy from the hectic day and I realize that I need to sleep.
"I'm going to bed." I mumble while standing up. I walk down the corridor and it dawns on me. What room do I take? I decide to open the first door in hopes Nathan isn't in it. I slowly open the door and peek my head inside. I see computers and a big monitor. I move to the next door and turn the nob, slowly the door opens. I peer inside and gasp.
"Oh gosh! I'm sorry! Sorry!" I say to fast. I close the door and hear laughter on the other side.
"It's fine you know." I thank god that he isn't mad at me and slowly open the next door. Thankfully I find a room that will work out. I fall down to the duvet and don't bother changing I just let sleep take me away.

The next morning I wake up and walk out into the dining room. I see Cathy and Nathan in there with a man I've never seen before.
"Katty, so glad you could join us." Cathy mutters. I'm taken aback by her words and stand their thinking why she doesn't like me now. I push the thought aside and take a seat next to Nathan.
"The pleasure is all mine." I say snottily. Cathy glares at me as I spread butter on my toast. Nathan chuckles at this but the man stays silent.
"And you are?" I ask the man in an innocent tone.
"Xavier, your trainer." he says quietly.
"Oh well nice to meet you."
"Yes, you too. And your name is?"
"Katty Merrick, but you can call me kat!" I squeal. Xavier nods and continues eating. After breakfast I head back to my room to take a shower. I wash my hair and body as clean as I can. Once I'm dressed I watch t.v. and hang out until I'm called in for lunch. A knock on my door causes me to jump.
"Come in." I squeak clutching my chest because of the almost heart-attack I just had. The door opens and Nathan stands their smiling at me.
"Hello Katty." he says as he comes into my room.
"Nathan." I murmur. "What do you want?" I ask emotionless.
"Do I have to want something to just hang out with a pretty girl like you?" he asks me feigning innocence. My cheeks redden when he calls me pretty.
"Whatever." I sigh pretending not to acknowledge the compliment he gave me.
"So, Kat?" he asks drawing out my nickname. "You excited?"
"Excited for what?"
"The Ender's Games!"
"No not really." I answer truthfully, "you?"
"Yes." he says "I am."
"Why?" I ask in confusion. Why would anyone want to be in the Ender's Games?
"The fame, fortune. Everyone wants it." he says proudly.
"Not everyone." I sigh.
"Yea. Name one person who doesn't want fame and fortune?" he asks.
"Me." I murmur.
"Oh." Nathan says before silence take its place.
"So again may I ask why you're in here?" I ask.
"I just thought we could get to know each other." Nathan murmurs. He hangs his head and crosses his arms over his chest.
"Okay." I say smiling. "What do you want to know?" I ask him? He rubs the back of his neck and then blurts out the question.
"Do you have a boyfriend?" as the words came out of my mouth my heat shatters. Painful memories come flooding back and my eyes start to burn with unshed tears. Should I tell him? No. That's a story for another time.
"Nope." I answer his lips twitch up but he hides it quick.
"Cool, cool." he murmurs. He looks at me expectantly and I realize I need to ask him a question.
"Do you go by anything besides 'Nathan'?" I ask. He frowns but it soon turns into a smirk.
"Nate." Nate, I like that name. I smile and wait for him to ask me a question.
"Do you think you'll win?" he asks. I frown and think about it. Can I win? Can I?
"Yes, I do."
Hey guys! What do you think of Katty's past love life? What about Nate asking about a boyfriend?
