Lauren sat outside the bar she had frequented for the past few weeks, a rickety old bench was just outside its doors and that's where Lauren ended up after an evening of drinking. Lauren sat there flicking her small lighter on and off as she stared at the bright flame, dreading the thought of going back to her small shack house. Lauren absolutely hating being at her house in the night time, its when those boney freaks would come out. When Lauren bought her small house no one had informed her that right outside her back yard there was a den full of them and that they take a particular liking to her backyard. Every night at midnight on the dot those creatures wake up and start making all kinds of gruesome noises. The Pires, as everyone calls them, are these boney creatures with flesh that looks and smells as if it had been burnt. The Pires are here on earth for one thing only, the god like people known as the Oflorum's ( O-flor-um), the humans believe the Pires were sent to hunt them.

Lauren's not so sure about that, to her the Pires are annoying shits who won't let her sleep. Lauren flicked on her lighter one more time before shoving the lighter back into her jacket pocket and rising to her feet, she hoped that those freaks have finally moved on from her yard and went else where seeing as it's almost three in the morning. Lauren started walking back from the old bar too her house which was only a few blocks away, Lauren had only hoped she didn't run into a rouge Pire.

Long ago the Pires roamed at all times of the day but the humans had bravely scared them into the darkness with fire, now it's kind of customary to carry around a lighter or matches encase you get caught with one of them.

Lauren had made it halfway home when she passed by the dark alley way, it was usually quiet but this time Lauren could hear the horrible screams and smell the distinct smell that could only belong to the Pires. Lauren froze in her spot right before the opening of the alley and just listened, Lauren could hear things breaking and- Lauren could hear another person in there, the heavy breathing a grunts of pain where in the mix of everything happening. Usually Lauren would've instantly ran the other way but something in her drunken mind was telling her to risk her life and help whoever was being attacked.

Lauren let out heavy breath and pulled out the small lighter she was playing with earlier, she took a few tentative steps towards then opening and finally looked in. Lauren saw around seven of the boney creatures hovering around a girl who was struggling to stand up at this point, Lauren noticed that there were about seven more of the Pires dead on the ground. The struggling girl finally collapsed in the middle of them and the Pires looked ready to pounce on the poor girl.

For a split second Lauren wondered if the girl in the middle of them was one of the god like people, due to her having so many of the Pires after her but the thought went away seeing as Lauren hadn't seen the distinctive bright pink eyes the Oflorum's have, Lauren finds it hard to believe since they're so rare. Without much thinking Lauren flicks on her lighter and rushes up to the crowd of Pires, bringing the fire up to them and when the creatures noticed the heat from what could only be fire they let out a loud screech and took off quickly in the other direction.

When all of the Pires were gone Lauren put out the fire and looked down at the bleeding girl, luckily she was still breathing. Lauren crouched down to get a better look at her and noticed that as before there were noticeable scratch marks on the girl which were no longer there, Lauren let out a sigh and was now starting to believe she had saved one of the rare beings.

Lauren knew the brown haired Oflorum wasn't safe in this alley way, Lauren did the only thing she could to keep the girl safe, she scooped the bloodied up girl into her arms and slowly staggered out of the alley.

As soon as Lauren had charged towards the group of Pires to save the girl in her arms she had slightly sobered up, but right now it felt as everything had hit her again and it was a struggle to make it back to her house without dropping the unconscious girl.
