NOVEMBER 2038.

The sounds of helicopters fill the neighborhood as police cars line up one by one. Scared, I rush home and all I can think is - I need to get home... to Mikey. Mikey was my younger brother. After our parents' death three years ago, he is all I have. As I near our house, I see blockades set up all over. I try to rush through, pushed back by a figure no shorter than six feet and covered in a bullet proof vest.

"Get back ma'am." He says sternly.

"I can't...Mikey!" I scream, pushing my way through.

Suddenly, I feel a hand on my shoulder. It was Jack.

"Mikey's with us. Let's go." he says already walking away. I give the policeman a dirty look and follow Jack away into the crowd.

"How did he know where to go?" I asked confused.

"Will brought him in." He answered without bothering to turn back to look at me. Relieved, I take a deep breath and follow Jack to the cove.

Thirty minutes later we reach a set of steel doors. Jack types in the four letter passcode and the doors open. I look around trying to spot my brother. I see Will by the ammunition and walk towards him.

"Thank you." I say softly. "You didn't have to come back for him."

He looks at me gently saying, "Yes. I did."

I ask where Mikey is and he points to the pantry. I walk over and extend my arms as I see Mikey run towards me. I hold him tighter than ever before, "I almost lost you." he says.

Heartbroken I reply, "Never. Us together .. forever."

That was our thing. After our parents died, we barely survived. If it wasn't for Jack we would not be here. He found me, one day, trying to hunt for food and kindly gave me some. He took me back to the cove and showed me everything. He said that he rescues orphans and teaches them to survive on their own. I told him about Mikey and he promised that he would help me learn to fight - to survive. After all, survival was key to living in this world - THIS HELL.
