Chapter 2

Mackenzie’s POV

My parents are sending me to Darkwood’s Teen Psychiatric Ward. It’s ridiculous. That place is for crazy people. I’m not crazy. I packed my bag and lied on my bed. This is the last time I’m going to be here for a while. I sighed and sat up.

“Are you ready?” my mom walked in without warning. I looked at her and nodded. I got up and grabbed my bag and walked out of my room and shut the door. In the car I put up my hood and didn’t say a word.

We arrived at the hospital in less than half an hour. I unbuckled my seatbelt, grabbed my bag and got out of the car. My mom and I walked to the main desk and asked her where the ward was.

“I’ll call someone to come and pick you up.” She said and smiled at me. She’s way to perky to be working in a hospital I thought to myself. She picked up the phone and dialed a number.

“I have a member of the Psychiatric Ward to get picked up.” She smiled at me again and pushed a piece of her curly blonde hair behind her ear and hung up. “You’re going to have to fill out some paperwork.” She smiled and put a clipboard up on the ledge along with a blue pen. She smiles too much.

“Alright.” My mother replied and pulled a pen out of her purse. She has issues with using pens that aren’t hers. It’s ridiculous; she thinks there’s some infectious disease on it. While she filled it out I turned around and looked at the other people in the waiting room. There was short little man with his head over a journal scribbling his pen at the speed of light. Beside him there was a woman leaning back in her chair. Her long black hair was up in a high messy bun. She looked like she was in her 20s. There were a few other people reading the newspaper or fiddling with their fingers or on their cell phones.

My mom put her pen back in her purse and handed the blonde haired nurse the clipboard.

“Thanks!” she smiled. “Just sit in one of the chairs over there and Jimmy will be here shortly to pick you up.”

“Ok.” My mother replied and smiled. I made sure we sat far away from the little man with his journal.

In a few minutes Jimmy, a tall man with a scruffy beard and hat, came into the waiting room and called my name. I stood up and waved my hand.

“Hello Mackenzie.” He said in a deep voice and smiled. Why is everyone so perky here? “Say goodbye to your mother.” I turned around and she hugged me. My mom never hugs me. I didn’t necessarily hug her back.

“Have fun sweetie!” she cried as I left the waiting room. Fun? Yeah, a month in a hospital with a bunch of suicidal nut jobs. Should be the best time of my life.

Alex’s POV

I woke up in a hospital. There was a short nurse with short black hair checking the machines next to me. She looked over at me and smiled.

“Look’s who’s awake!” she smiled, “How you feeling?”

I tried to reply but my throat was very sore and I went into a coughing fit. The nurse raised my arms above my head.

“We had to pump your stomach so your throat is going to be very sore for the next few days.” The next few days? How long am I going to be here for? “I’m Julie.”

“Where are my parents?” I managed to say

“They were here earlier but they left. You’ve been out for a few days.” She replied. A few days?

“What happened to me?” I asked

She sighed, “You took a bottle of prescription medication.” She frowned. I stared blankly at her. “The doctor recommended you go to the Teen Psychiatric ward of the hospital and your parents agreed.” I just stared at her. I can’t believe this is happening. This is a dream. Wake up. “You should be heading over there in the next few hours.” She said reading the clipboard at the end of my hospital bed. I couldn’t even respond. “Are you alright?” I nodded. She smiled and walked out of the room.
