I couldn't put a name to the scent even though it was oddly familiar. No one moved. As the scent became stronger I knew whoever was coming was not far now.
Carlisle took a step forward.
'That's Alistair,' he said.
'Alistair?' Asked Rosalie through gritted teeth.
Just then Alistair came into view running at high speed and stopped dead in his tracks when he saw us.
'I... I thought it was you,' he said to Carlisle. 'I recognized your scents.'
'The traitor returns,' said Rose.
'Rosalie,' Carlisle said. Then he turned to Alistair.
I looked at him closely. He hadn't changed. Not that I expected he would have changed, being a vampire and all. Dark hair, burgundy eyes. Straight nose, deathly pale. Yeah, typical vampire. But his features weren't what I remembered him for.

'So what happened?' Asked Carlisle.
We were sitting in the living room of Edward's - our - house. We came straight here because it was closer to where we were.
'You... You moved here?' He asked Carlisle looking around him. 'I mean, why? It's not as if the Volturi won't be able to find you a few miles from your former home.'
'We didn't move here,' said Carlisle. 'Edward, Bella and Nessie did.'
'Something you would have known if you'd stuck around a bit longer,' said Rosalie crossing her arms over her chest.
Rosalie hadn't forgiven him for what he did a few months back.
But I understood why he did what he did. Selfish though it was, he was trying to survive.
He had been one of our earliest allies when we were teaming up against the Voltury. But one day he just up and left. No explanation, no apology, no nothing. We just found out that he  had left. Him leaving abruptly caused unrest among the rest as everyone got the feeling that we were fighting for a doomed cause. It took everything we had to convince them to stay even though Carlisle said that anyone who was unwilling to stand with us could make their exit.
Alistair didn't want the Voltury to find out that he'd been with us.
But as to why he was here now was a complete mystery to me.
"Why are you here Alistair?" Carlisle asked.
"They're after me," Alistair said and he looked scared to even say anything.
"Who? Who is after you?"
"They've been after me for a while now," Alistair explained. "I avoided them as much as I could but they always find me somehow. I can't stay for long. They'll be here soon."
I had a really bad feeling about this. I did not like where he was going with this conversation.
"Who?" I asked bracing myself for the answer because I had already guessed who were after him.
"The Voltury" he said. "Dimitri and Cara are after me."
Dimitri was one of Aro's most trusted people and quite possibly the best tracker on earth.
I looked at Edward and saw that he was strained by the set of his jaw.
Alistair being here could only mean one thing. Dimitri and Cara were right behind him. And we didn't have as much time as we thought.
