I speeded quickly and tapped on Camille’s shoulder nervously. “Hey Camille, how was school?”
She turned around, scowling at me, but soon turned into a sly smile. “Good, the test was stupid though.”
If only I knew what kind of test we were going to have in the future. “Yeah, I think I did horrible.”
Camille snorted. “Shelby, you’re a straight A student. You know you gotten an A.”
I need to find out how to get to understand who Shelby is. I don’t know where I live, what I eat, who my family is. I don’t even know my last name!
“Even somebody like me can fail a test.”
Camille shrugged. “Whatever. I got to go get my key, so I’m leaving now.”
As she turned away I quickly twirled her back around. She looked at me frowning. “What do you want?” She said with annoyance. I didn’t even know she treated her peers like this. It made me have second thoughts on what kind of person she was outside of how I knew her.
“You want to go study for the test a week from now?” I asked, out of anxiousness.
“We have a test next week?” Camille furrowed her eyebrows.
I felt the uneasiness rise up my throat. “The math test, you don’t remember?” I said, trying to sound convincing.
Camille frowned, and then shrugged her shoulders. “Well, that is my worst subject. Where do you want to study?”
I looked frantically around. “What about that bench right there?”
“Sure,” Camille said, finally dropping her plans of what she was going to originally do.
I walked over there cautiously, rubbing my sweaty palm down my jeans. I couldn’t mess up at all, or the worst could happen.
Not long until we sat down was until I realized I probably wouldn’t have any idea or any of the work we were doing. I frowned at all the equations that were on the math sheet that Camille pulled out her book bag.
“Where’s your stuff?” Camille asked.
“Oh,” I said, trying to find an excuse. “I left my book bag in my locker.”
“How do you forget your - .” Before Camille finished her sentence a football flew right into her face. Camille didn’t take long until she rose up and gripped on the football tightly. “Who threw this?” She asked her voice cracking up as she held back tears.
Two little boys, around the ages of ten, came over. Camille’s faced softened and her voice calmed down. “Be more careful next time.” She said in a motherly tone. She impressed me by how quick her moods changed. Something I should take note of for the future. I wasn’t aware of how far in the future we were, but we looked the same age.
Camille sighed as she flopped back on to the bench, realizing her mistake as she moaned in pain from the hard surface of the chair. I held in a giggle as she gave me an evil eye. “Anyway,” Camille said, as she positioned the book back on her.
Boom!
The flash came so fast I didn’t know what happened. All I know is that when I opened my eyes and my vision cleared up, I saw Delvin grinning widely at me. He gave me a hug. “You did it!”
I pulled away and yawned. “Can I go now?”
“You wish,” Delvin shrugged his shoulders and ran his fingers through his head. “Now you just have to be the police.”
My eyes felt like they fell out my head and rolled down the gutter. “I have to be the police? Why?”
Delvin just sighed and didn’t say anything. I waited their impatiently, my foot tapping the floor at an unsteady pace. “Well?” I asked.
“Well, in the past, a pedestrian called the police because Camille was wandering around instead of getting her key, and they called social workers. The police have to do a report so they can prove it valid.
“And this haves to do with me, how?”
“Well, if Camille gives an explanation, which we both know won’t be a good idea; the social worker could take Camille away. So whatever she says, make it reasonable, so she doesn’t have to go to court and that entire extra.”
I watched as he walked randomly to a corner of a room and took his shirt off. “Can’t be wearing shirts for so long, you know?” He said with his back turned towards me.
I gaped at his back dimples, and when he turned away his abs was almost irresistible. I felt myself drooling. I felt like I was in heaven.
“Take a picture, it’ll last longer.” He said as I woken up from my daydreaming. He still was shirtless, and I still couldn’t help but stare.
“No, it’s just…I don’t know…I mean.” I stuttered over my words. He smirked at my dumbness. This made me very embarrassed. I messed with my fingers as he tossed on another shirt.
“You got a boyfriend?” Delvin said, sitting in one of the scarce chairs in the room.
“No,” I replied, very assertive.
“I don’t know why, you’re really pretty.” Delvin said, scooting his chair near me. I was still standing awkwardly.
“Thanks,” I said shyly. “You’re cute too.”
“Man, I thought I was a pretty boy,” Delvin said, obviously teasing me.
I shook my head, trying not to fall for this guy. “Don’t I have to go be the po-po now?”
“Nah, that’s tomorrow. It’s your lucky day; you get to spend it with me.” He said simply, his eyes twinkling in the faint light he did have.
“I am lucky to have found you.” Before the words came out my mouth, I wanted to take them back. I looked slowly up at Delvin, who was smirking at me.
I seriously can’t stay the whole day with this hottie.
