I wrote most of This song about a year ago but I've only recently came up with the bridge. This song has a scenario to go with it. It's not real events, but it's what I imagined when writing this song. It's about a very old lady, in hospital, reflecting on the time she spent with her husband before he died a long time ago. You don't have to see the song like this of course, it's just how I see it.
A little while back
I was feeling kind of sad
Because I loved someone
Who I thought would never love me back
But a little while later
I found that I was wrong
Because he loved me so
More than anything or anyone
And I was happy
And he was happy (I think)
A little while back
I was with him in the forest
He was teaching me
How to catch a fish by hand
I remember asking him why
He's spending time with me and not the others
"Because I like you."
He said, "Because I like you ~"
And we ran and we ran and we ran and we ran from our troubles
And we ran and we ran and we ran and we ran a long way away from home
And we ran and we ran and we ran and we ran until we were out of breath
And we were happy...a little while back
A little while back
We were standing at the station
My eyes were flooding
And my hand, coiled in his shirt
He was holding me
As he told me not to cry
"Because I love you."
He said, "Because I need you to be alright."
And we ran and we ran and we ran and we ran from our troubles
And we ran and we ran and we ran and we ran a long way away from home
And we ran and we ran and we ran and we ran until we were out of breath
And we were happy...A little while back
And every time he left he would return
And every time I broke he'd make me better
And every time it poured we'd watch the raindrops go pitter patter on the windowsill.
And we thought it would last forever.
And we ran and we ran and we ran and we ran from our troubles
And we ran and we ran and we ran and we ran a long way away from home
And we ran and we ran and we ran and we ran until we were out of breath
And we were happy... A little while back
Then I open up my eyes and look around me
Everything is going black
It all happened so much more
Than a little while back
(a little while later)
