hy had Skylar not responded?

He hoped he hadn't come across as some weirdo. It had been almost six years now since they had last seen each other. Skylar had moved primary school that November and he had never had the chance to even say goodbye. He remembered when they used to play outside on the equipment together and play mums and dads together and make up dances to show to the lunchtime dinner ladies who would probably rather jump off a bridge than watch them. He could remember it all. Their line was moving too fast for him to speak again as Skylar had basically run off from him up the stairs, carrying a black galaxy bag and a handful of books. The rest of their form was far too tall for him to try to navigate through to catch up. He would have to choose an appropriate seat when they reached their form room, so he could explain himself, now he felt like a complete idiot.

His group of friends from primary had gone to join their form lines now and nobody else in his form was from his old primary. The only face he could remember was Skylar's. Now he was questioning himself whether it was the right person. It must have been. He ran to keep up with the line and almost slipped over on some water puddles by the water fountain, making himself look like an idiot yet again. This school year really hadn't started very well. Skylar had completely ignored him, none of his group were in his form and he had almost broken a leg slipping on a puddle. He hoped that his form tutor wouldn't set a seating plan, he really, desperately needed to sort this out. It had been years and years but if he could remember, Skylar should be able to as well, surely.

The steps were really steep in the school, which didn't help Jett with catching up with the back of his line. They had arrived earlier than the rest of the school, he had no idea how he was meant to navigate these stairs in full school fashioned swing. Everything had almost gotten four sizes bigger and he didn't like it. He felt so uncomfortable with his surroundings and Skylar had made everything worse by ten thousand percent. What had he done that had caused such a volatile reaction? What had he done?
