Olivia:
"Are you ready yet?" my mom called from downstairs as I finished my final touches on my makeup.
"Almost," I called back, capping my mascara and putting my glasses back on. I stood back to look at myself in the large mirror, straightening out my dress and fixing my shoes. This was one of the only times I ever wore a dress, when my mom and I went out to a fancy restaurant to eat and talk. We did this every couple of months just to catch up and have some laughs together.
I ran down the stairs while fixing my hair.
"Ready?" she stood by the door, looking at her watch.
"Ready," I smiled.
She paused to take a look at me. "Oh, my little liv. You're growing up so fast," she smiled, putting her hand on her heart dramatically.
"Mom, I'm already 21," I nudged her playfully, checking my phone. "We need to leave now or we'll be late for our reservation," I opened the door.
"Let's go!" she exclaimed excitedly as I laughed.

We sat at our tables as a waiter poured us some water in our glasses.
"Thank you," I smiled politely. "Where is the restroom?"
"Down the hall to the left," he pointed. I waited until he walked away.
"I need to pee," I said standing up.
"I'll come with you," my mom smiled, standing up as well. We both walked to the bathroom and did our business, and then walked out. As I walked out, I noticed an extremely handsome guy with dirty blonde hair and blue eyes sitting on the table near the bathroom. I accidentally made eye contact, and then turned away, blushing. He looked at me up and down and I felt his eyes follow me as I walked away.
"He was totally checking you out!" my mom jumped beside me excitedly as I rolled my eyes.
"He just looked at me, that doesn't mean he was checking me out," I felt my cheeks heating up.
"You totally like him, too! Look at your face," my mom playfully pinched my cheeks as I groaned. "Maybe you could finally have a boyfriend!"
"No, mom. Let's just forget about it," I shook my head, amused by how excited she was.
"He was so cute though," she mumbled sadly as I giggled.
He was really cute...
I shook the thought out of my head as I tried to decide what to order. I knew someone like him would never like someone like me - with his looks, he could date girls way prettier than me.
We ordered our food and as we were waiting for it to come, a waiter came and brought us both drinks.
"What is this? We never ordered any drinks?" my mom frowned, confused.
"These are from the young man over there," the waiter gestured to the same blonde guy from about two tables down from us.
I felt my cheeks heat up as I glanced over and he made eye contact with me, smiling. He gave a tiny wave and I smiled back at him. I turned back to my mom, my stomach doing flips inside me.
"Oh my god!" my mom squealed, grabbing my arm excitedly. "See, I told you! He totally likes you!" she winked at me. "Why don't you go over and talk to him?"
I glanced over at him, who was already talking to his friend again.
"I can't, mom," I sighed, watching him. "He probably meant these for the girl at the other table," I waved my arm towards the blonde girl sitting at the table next to us. "She's really pretty," I sighed.
"Oh my god, liv. You just need to seize the moment sometimes. You can be really unreasonable sometimes," my mom shook her head. "Anyways, back to talking - where were we?"
We talked until our food came and we had our laughs as we ate. It was just like any other normal date. But I couldn't stop thinking about that guy. I kept on glancing at him as I tried to listen to what my mom was saying.
Suddenly, as we were about to order dessert, the guy stood up with his friend. He started walking towards our table, which was near the exit. I immediately straightened up and started to fix my hair.
He's probably just going to the exit, I thought, but the butterflies still filled my stomach.
He stopped at our table, smiling at both me and my mom.
"Hey, I'm the guy that bought both of you drinks," he smiled at me and my mom, holding out his hand to shake. "My name is Shayne," I shook his warm, large hand.
"I'm Olivia," my face heated up as I shook his hand back. "And this is my mom," she waved a little at him, winking. Oh my god, mom.
"Anyways, I just wanted to say that I think you're really pretty, Olivia, and I was wondering if you would like to go on a date with me sometime?" He stood. I frowned, taken aback by how forward he was. "If it's okay with you, of course," he smiled politely at my mom.
"Of course it's okay with me!" my mom laughed and winked at me. I just sat there, my mouth open. The hot guy at the restaurant wanted to take me out?
"U-um, of course," I stuttered, still shocked.
"Great!" he smiled. "Nice to meet both of you," he smiled at my mom, "and hopefully I'll see you soon," he smiled at me, dropping something on the table. Then he walked out the door with his friend. I picked up the piece of paper he dropped, which had a number on it.
Call me when you can,
Shayne
I just sat with my mouth open as my mom laughed and said, "I told you so!"
