i didn't know why i agreed to this, since i'd fallen over more times than i could count and my backside was probably as red as blood. however, looking over at my lover as she twirls around with the two most important people in my life, despite her of course, i see why.
jade took it in turns to do this spinning thing with george and hollie, and when i asked where she learned how to do it, she told me she used to be a figure skater.
you learn something new everyday.
and watching the smiles on the kids faces made my day even better, if that was possible. the brown eyed beauty managed to put a smile on my face for the smallest of things, whether it be the look of concentration on her face as her nose was buried in a book, or the way her nose scrunches up to stop her glasses from sliding down. she was absolute art in a nutshell and she didn't see that.
"excuse me, sir." i snap out of my day dream and turn to face an elderly woman with faded blue eyes and grey hair. she showed me a smile and looked over at jade and the kids.
"you have a beautiful family," she exclaims, dabbing at her cheeks with her floral handkerchief. i can't help the smile grow on my face. these strangers thought that my niece and nephew were the children that jade and i had created. and though that was far from the truth, it made me wonder what a child of ours would be like.
"thank you, though those aren't my children, but my nephew and niece." the woman's face drops.
"and what about the lovely lady?" she questions, leaning next to me against the other side of the barrier to the ice. the shit eating grin on my face must say it all, as she chuckles and mutters under her breath about young love. "treasure her," she winks, before limping off to the small cafe.
when my eyes travel back to my three darlings, i see that brown eyes are already on mine. they dance with delight, the smile she wears creating laugh lines around her eyes. she was so fucking beautiful and she was all mine.
george and hollie begin pointing to me, so jade grabs a hand in each of her own and they skate over to where i stand at the barrier.
"uncle harry, please can we get a hot chocolate?" george politely asks, hollie pouts her lips and jade chuckles.
"i don't know, darling. you know mummy doesn't like you drinking things like that. it rots your teeth." hollie lifts her arms up to jade, who picks her up, and my heart skips a beat at the sight.
"please uncle harry, daddy would get us one. we don't have to tell mummy."
"yeah, daddy would let us get one," jade adds, pouting her plump lips and fluttering her lashes at me. my mouth drops and my pants all of a sudden feel tighter.
"fine, fine! but don't tell mummy, she'll have my head on a plate." the two kids cheer and jade laughs, passing hollie to me over the barrier before she does the same with george. it was easier than skating all the way around to the entrance of the ice. once she's climbed over herself with my help, she changes her shoes and kisses my cheek.
"thanks, daddy," she whispers in my ear.
oh, she's so getting it tonight.
