She had known that bastard would find her sooner or later. But the fact he had found her sooner, massively pissed Gwen off.
"Come out already princess, you know I hate that hide and seek game... It's exhausting."
Then die of exhaustion, she thought to herself and clenched her fists. Gwen didn't even dream about going back with him. She'd rather rip out five of her remaining six hearts and join the druids or something.
She deliberately ignored the confused goddess boy next to her and focused on not just revealing her hideout and snapping the generals neck. That death would be way too nice for him.
"You're being really childish right now, y'know that?" he said, to nobody specific. At least she hoped he hadn't found her yet. Carefully she threw a glace over to Mael, who looked pretty scared. Not such a big surprise. If Gwen was a goddess with broken wings, she would not consider it funny to sit in sight of a high ranked evil as fuck demon general either. Internally she cursed herself. She didn't wanna drag him into this, that wouldn't be fair.
Maybe, if they waited long enough, he would just leave? Probably not as she knew Zane. He was a persistent little fuck.
"Seriously Gwenny, just give up. You can't hide forever!" The teasing tone in his voice, just as much as the fact he called her Gwenny again, made her wanting to jump out and stab his seven fucking stone hearts with her sword. Repeatedly. But she held back. She couldn't just expose them like this, not as long as Mael was with her... But she could... lure him away...
Carefully she leaned over to Mael, holding his mouth shut so he wouldn't do anything stupid that could reveal their hideout.
"Get away from here. Whatever I do. He mustn't see you." she whispered in his ear, barely audible, even for the goddess. "Trust me."
Mael was shaking from fear, but she couldn't laugh at him for it. Her hearts were also beating like crazy. Though the look in his eyes as he turned to her definitely screamed: No! This is stupid! Don't even think about it! But what demon would dare to listen to a goddess?
She let go of Mael and before he could even dare to protest threw a stone into the bushes to the right. Before she could move, a black wall of fire burned its way through the forest, only missing them by a few meters.
Quickly Gwen jumped to the left, away from the fire and away from Mael. Within a second she spotted Zane by the river, drew her sword and sprang forward. He had turned his back on her, but the second she was about to slice his neck he spun around and their swords clashed.
"What a nice way of greeting your fiance." A smirk sneaked onto Zanes face, while wrath distorted hers.
"In your dreams."
Gwen made a roll backwards in the air and unleashed a cloud of darkness in the demons direction. "Blackout." Her dark matter surrounded him, forming an unbreakable prison of darkness. Or so she had thought.
The next instant black flames broke out of the cocoon and forced Gwen to fall back. She formed a thin veil of darkness to protect her from the fire, but even that was broken through very quickly, when Zanes kick hit her hardly in the stomach. The air was forcefully pressed out of her lungs when she hit the tree, coughing out blood and spit. Before Gwen could get back to her senses, Zane grabbed her throat and lifted her up in the air. The general was at least two heads taller than her and basically a mountain of muscles, not making it easier for Gwen to escape from his grip. She desperately gasped for air, tried to kick him in the nuts, but nothing worked.
