••Luke••
"Why would your dad write that stuff and what was it all about?"
Tears fall from her eyes as she cries while still sitting on the floor. I didn't know what to do, I wanted answers, yet she was in tears. She wipes the salty drops away.
"Your life is on the line....because of me....I cant save you." She says.
She seemed lost in her mind.
"Vivian! Snap out of it! Tell me what the stuff in the book was about!" I say
She seems to come back to reality. She looks at me confused.
"I haven't read his journal before. I- I don't know what you saw."
I remember the page I copied. I help Vivian up and I lead her to my bed. She sits down and I grab the page and hand it to her.
"This was in his journal. I copied it. Do you know what it means?" I ask.
She reads over it. When she's done she looks extremely upset.
"Luke. You shouldn't have read any of this. Do you understand the amount of danger you will be in if anyone finds out about this!"
I couldn't speak. I didn't know what to say. Vivian holds out her hand to me.
"Give me your notes." She commands.
I felt hurt from her words. Doesn't she trust me? I wanted to help her. I give her my notes. She sighs and looks away from me.
"You probably thought this was my diary or something. I told you that I would tell you everything Luke. Why'd you have to go snooping in my stuff for answers."
I stand up.
"I'm sorry Vivian. I- I don't know what I was thinking. If you just talk to me I'm sure we could figure something out!" I say.
She shakes her head. A tear dripped from her black eye.
"No Luke. I was ignorant to trust you. I'll handle this myself. Don't talk to me again you circus freak."
She left my train cart as soon as she was done speaking. I sat in my bed. A sob rises in my throat. I run my hand through my blond hair.
I screwed up.
"You circus freak"
I sigh. I deserved what she said. I knew that I didn't deserve her trust either. Yet my heart longed to pick up all the pieces of her broken heart.
I needed advice, and I knew just the person to talk to.••Hood••
He read the book.
He's going to die.
I will be responsible for another death.
How many will I sacrifice?
Should I give up?
Should I let them take me back..."Vivian! Snap out of it! Tell me what the stuff in the book was about!" Luke said.
I snap out of my thoughts and focus on what Luke said.
"I haven't read his journal before. I- I don't know what you saw." I say confused.
Why did he look so scared? What did he read? I blush under my mask as he gently helps me up and leads me to his bed. I sit down as he shoves a paper into my hands.
"This was in his journal. I copied it. Do you know what it means?" He asked.
I read it over. Dark memories consume me as I read it. This was about me. It was all about me. It was evidence against my fathers crimes, against what he did to me. My hands shake as I realize that Luke read this. He could be killed if Tud and Reg find out!
"Luke. You shouldn't have read any of this. Do you understand the amount of danger you will be in if anyone finds out about this!"
He looked at me, speechless. I realized that now would be a perfect time to do what Leona said.
Hurt him.
Maybe if I do that, he will be safe.
My heart twist as I hold out my hand to him.
