The Arrangement

-NINETEEN-

"No way he did not!" I laughed and he nodded his head.

"Yes he did. He was scared. You should had seen him when that shark swam by." He laughed. "Wait what did you do?" I asked while trying to catch my breath. "I had to jump out of a plane." He said and my eyes went wide. "Oh my gosh really?" I asked and he nodded. "Yes. I almost pissed my pants when I saw how far up we were. " He said and I laughed. "But we did it together. Faced our fears." He said calming down. 

"Yall are close huh?" I asked with a smile and then his expression  changed. "We WERE. But now... I don't know. He just changed..." He commented and I furrowed my brows together. "What do you mean changed?" I asked and he sighed.  "He seemed to develop this anger and went cold. And he's been connected with this hidden side of him. " He explained and i just nodded and stay silent.

"Well that's enough stories for tonight. Lets go get the pizza."

"Cheers" He laughed and we "clinked" pizza slices together.  "Mmm, so mm tell me. What do you do?" He said with a full mouth.  I chuckled. "I work for ethan." I said and took a bite out of my pizza. "Yes I know but what is it that you do for  him... it seems uh tiring." He said sort or suspiciously  and I swallow. "Uh I'm his assistant." I say and get just glares at me. "What?" I ask taking another slice out the box but he is just silent.

"You didn't have to take the job." He whispers bitterly.  "You shouldn't have." He mumbles to himself and I pretend not to hear it. "He pays me good so..." I say and he scoffs. "I bet he does. "

What the fuck?

I shake off what he said and check the time.  "Oh shit it's almost 10." I say and he takes the last slice and devours it whole.

"Well it was nice to hang out. It was fub" He says with a smile as  we stop in front of our apartments. "Yea, it actually  was." I say whole heartedly.

He locks eye contact with me and I break it. He steps towards me slowly and I'm just still.
Oh shit no.

He looks down at me and I slowly look up at him. He leans down towards my lips and to my surprise I don't stop.
 Oh god Sutton stop!

His lips brush against mine softly and I quickly break away and turn my head. "Grayson..." I whisper and be turns my head to face him. "Grayson no. I-i can't." I whispered and he sighed in frustration. "You cant? He CANT fucking control you!" he raised his voice pointing somewhere in the abyss. "What? Who?" I questioned with innocence. But I know. I know he knows.
God he fucking knows!

"You know what and who the fuck I'm talking about Sutton! Don't try to hide it anymore!" He  says blatantly but u still play dumb. "I- I don't know what you are talking about." I lie and he scoffs. "Ha please. You might be fooling everyone else but you can't fool me. You aren't." They words were sour but true. I gulp.

He then grabs my hand and holds it in his. "I can give you more than him. Trust me. It will be real. All real." He whispers and I shake my head. "No, Grayson." I plead. "I don't want you." I confess and he hangs his head. "I know you feel something for me. You just can't show it because of him." He laughs and I shake my head. "No I don't. Okay. " I admit and he just shakes his head.

"Okay... but once he throws you away like the rest of them don't say i- ha no I'm just gonna say it now to save you some regret... I told you so." He says and unlocks his door. "There's no s-strings attached Grayson." I say matter of factly and he looks at me for a minute then drops his eyes from my gaze. "That's what you think.  That's what they all thought." He says then goes inside and slams the door behind him.

I take a breath and suddenly notice I have tears in my eyes. Why?

You know why. You definitely know why.
