Clay Jensen abandoned his shift at the Crestmont movie theater as he had put all the puzzle pieces together. Hannah Baker, the girl that he loved, was going to end her own life. Clay felt like an idiot for not catching on to the signs sooner. When she pushed him away at Jessica Davis' party, he should have stayed with her and attempted to talk things out. But here the boy was, currently running through the slightly crowded town as he tried and failed to keep up with the disappearing black car that Hannah was driving. Clay kept up a fairly quick pace as he had gone on tons of runs before, due to his dream of being in the olympics one day, but it was still no use as the car soon vanished from his sight.

Soon enough, Clay finally made it to his friend's house, already seeing the black car in the driveway. The teen stopped for a brief second to catch his breath before he jogged up to the front door. The boy knocked and called his friend's name, only to get nothing in response. Inspecting the door, Clay realized that it was unlocked. The boy slowly opened the door and carefully entered the house. After closing the door behind him, Clay glanced around the area. "Hannah?" He called out, hoping to get something in response. "It's Clay. Can we talk?" The boy called out again as he began moving forward and down a hallway. As Clay made his way down the hallway, he stopped in his tracks as he heard the sound of running water, accompanied by what sounded like barely audible gasps for breath. "Hannah?" Clay called out again, beginning to get nervouse as he slowly approached the closed door.

When Clay got even closer, the boy glanced down, taking notice of a small amount of water coming throgh the small space between the door and the floor. Becoming paniced, Clay stepped forward as he opened the door, being greeted by his friend lying limply in the overflowing bathtub, the water slowly becoming a pick color from the blood exiting her wrists. "Hannah!" Clay exclaimed, not being fazed by the sight as he instantly rushed into action. The boy quickly ran over, wasting no time in carefully removing his friend from the tub after stopping the water from flowing even more. Clay inspected the wounds on the girl's wrists. He then quickly pulled his phone out and called 911 while he searched the bathroom for anything to cover the wounds with. As Clay stayed on the phone, he came across some towels in a cabinet. The teen quickly grabbed two small towels and tightly wrapped them around Hannah's bleeding wrists to at least slow the blood flow a little.

Soon enough, Clay began to hear sirens get louder and louder as help approached the Baker's house. Clay was careful as he gently picked Hannah up and made his way outside to meet the paramedics. When Clay got outside, two paramedics rushed to his side, gently taking the unconscious girl from him and placing her on the gurney in the awaiting ambulance. As everything happened around him, Clay simply took everything in. The worried boy was then approached by a paramedic who questioned him about what happened, or what he knew. After answering the questions, Clay climbed into the ambulence with the paramedics before the vehicle was rushed off to the hospital.

Before Clay knew it, he was seated in a waiting chair at the hospital as he waited for any news on the girl he loved. Clay couldn't help but go over things in his mind, trying to think of what he could have done to stop this from even happening. "Are you Clay Jensen?" A soft voice suddenly asked, breaking the silence and pulling Clay out of his thoughts. The boy glanced up to see an older couple standing before him. "Yes." Clay answered simply. The older couple sat down beside him then. "What happened? Is our daughter ok?" The woman asked, clearly upset. Clay then realized that the older couple was Hannah's parents. He had called them while he was in the ambulance on the way over to the hospital, but that action had simply left his mind when he got lost in his own thoughts. "I'm not too sure about what happened. I just got this feeling that something was wrong, so I wanted to talk to her. But she left the theater before I had a chance to. So I left and headed towards her house. When I got there, the front door was unlocked. I went inside, and looked around for her, only to find her in that bathroom bleeding out." Clay explained, a few tears coming to his eyes, but he was able to keep them at bay.
