Into the Unknown Part 3
The planet of Xylon had some of the most beautiful scenery in the entire cosmos. This planet was a giant forest made not of wood and shrubbery, but it consisted of florescent and translucent fungus. There were bright blues and deep greens. More beautiful than even that was the giant crystalline lake that went deep into the planet's core. Inside the lake housed a special sort of building. The children of Xylon went there for educational purposes, and the adults went there as a sort of retreat. This place was where the children of the empress stayed. She was always so busy finding ways to explore peace not just for Xylon, but elsewhere as well. This special school had introduced Octavia to Allanon. They had fallen in love with one another, yet the empress had forbidden their union. Instead they carried on in secret. Olivae was studying engineering and now had finally found a friend who had similar interests, the young and brash Bellatrix. The two of them did everything together. Ophelia wasn't as lucky as her sisters. She didn't have anyone amidst a world filled with people, she was totally alone. The poor child seemed not to be bothered by this at all. She didn't seem to have a care in the world. Octavia and Olivae came home almost every night to hear the daily scolding from the empress.
"You two are supposed to be looking after her! What do you mean she has no friends? Do you realize how special she is?" The empress was just as tired of those conversations as her daughters were. The truth was that she loved all of her girls. One particular day, Ophelia didn't pay attention to where she was going, and instead of following Octavia and Olivae, she found herself standing in front of a very peculiar building. the door opened, and curious little Ophelia walked on through. Various instruments and rare obscurities were spotted everywhere. Forms of electricity were being pumped into the walls of the structure. The fungus structure reacted rather strangely. Ophelia wasn't repulsed. Instead, she reacted with utter amazement. She walked in to see a giant device. It was circular almost. A group of scientists seemed to pour over it. They started pumping electricity into it, while another was randomly pushing buttons on the console. No matter what they did, the device would not turn on. Ophelia stared at the wondrous beauty of the strange device. As she walked up to it, she laid her hands on the console. That seemed to have sparked something. The device came to life. Lights blinked and the wheel on the outside turned. A portal opened up, and Ophelia backed away. As she stepped back, the portal closed. It seemed to react to her presence. The main scientist looked at the young girl.
"Ophelia?"
"I'm sorry sir?" he responded quickly.
"Don't be. Tell you what, I'll take you home to the empress, and you can come back here any time you wish." She nodded her head. When she walked in the door, Octavia and Olivae both tried to stop her from going to the back room. She forced her way through anyways. The empress lay there dying from a stab wound. She reached out her hand for her youngest child. Ophelia ran to her.
"Don't fret child, you have your sisters." She handed over the royal stone to Ophelia.
"Whenever you feel alone look at this stone and know that I'm there with you." Ophelia nodded her head. Octavia took her from the room. A few moments later she was gone. The meteorites started raining down that same day. It was as if all of Xylon knew.
