I closed the door after I entered his office.

It was a spacious room in neutral colors with a big desk in the middle of the room and a comfy-looking chair behind it. The walls were lined with many bookcases and everything here looked formally.

"You should probably sit for this..." he murmured underneath his breath so quietly I couldn't almost hear him.

"Dad, what's wrong?" I asked him worriedly as I sat down across from him. He was leaning backward in his chair behind his dark wooden desk, looking beaten from stress.

Normally he is full of energy and he acts nicely toward me and my mom. He never let us show his weak side, or this one- stressed and messed up.

"I didn't have any other option..." he didn't meet my gaze as he was looking down on the floor, almost absently.

What was he talking about? What option?

I could hear regret and anger in his voice, but there was something else that startled me.

Coldness and distance.

Something I'd never heard before in his voice when he was talking to me.

"I swear I tried, but this was the only way..." he held his face in his hands and I heard a low sob.

"Are you crying?" I've never heard my dad crying. This has to be serious.

And bad.

"Dad what happened?!" I stood up and made my way toward him, wanting to comfort him, but he stopped me.

"Please, stop...I'm sure that after this, you'll hate me and..." he paused to take a breath before he sighed defeatedly.

"Just read this..."

He moved a sheet of paper across his desk in my direction. I pulled it closer to me so I could read it.

My heart dropped when I saw the first two words.

-Marriage Contract-

I looked up to see dad's expression, but he held his gaze firmly on the floor.

When I started breathing again, I read through it all. The first few lines were some legal notes and authentications, I kept reading until my heart started to beat faster again, my brain confused.
