*Jonah's POV*

Monday was a hard day at school from me. The Saturday before was when I got that unexpected visit from the detectives. Since then, they hadn't bothered me. Yet. I figured they would come around again, with more questions and accusing me for more things I didn't do.

"You need to stop worrying about that Kat girl, man. It's all I hear from you. When, in reality, Emma likes you," Josh told me.

"I just don't see Emma like that," I shook my head.

"So, she's young, whatever. The point is one of the most hottest girls at this school is crazy about you and you aren't tapping that," Josh said. He smiled at a group of girls up ahead and they all giggled amongst each other. I bet Josh has made out with each of them seven different times. Disgusting.

"Is all you think about girls? Seriously?" I asked.

"All you think about is Kat so don't judge me. Ever since we found out she ran away it's been all about Kat," Josh rolled his eyes.

"Because it's actually important. Unlike you, I don't worry about which girl I'm going to make out with next. I think about important things. Like college and having a stable  relationship," I told Josh.

Josh waved at some Freshman girl. She smiled then put her hand over her mouth and walked away.

"I'm sorry, what?" Josh asked.

"You're a player yet girls are still all over you," I sighed.

"It's the charm, dude," Josh shrugged.

"What charm?" I teased.

"Ha. Ha. Very funny, Jonah," Josh teased me back.

We made it to our first class where Emma was waiting outside the front door. We all had first period together, sadly.

"Hi, Jonah," Emma smiled, giving me a hug and then kissing my cheek.

"Tap that," Josh mouthed and gave me a smirk and then walked inside the classroom.

"Hey, Emma," I shrugged.

Emma opened her mouth to say something but someone tapped my shoulder. I turned around to see Kat's best friend, Alexys. I've only talked to her a couple times but we're only acquaintances. She handed me a business card. I looked over it and it was Detective Sanchez's business card. I carried it with me in case I thought of something last minute. It must have fallen out of my binder.

"They visited you too?" Alexys raised an eyebrow at me.

"Yeah..." I trailed off.

"We need to talk," Alexys said then pushed past Emma and I and into the classroom.

"When?" I called after her.

"At lunch," Alexys said like it was obvious.

"But Jonah, you promised you would sit with me," Emma whined and gave me a pouty lip. I looked inside the classroom and saw Alexys was raising an eyebrow at me.

"I can't today. Maybe tomorrow," I shrugged to Emma.

I walked inside the classroom and Josh gave me a weird look.

"I said tap that not ignore that," Josh whispered to me.

"I'm not you, Josh," I whispered back.

Then the bell rang and class started.

(Time skip - lunch time)

I sat across from Alexys. She was smart and made herself a lunch at home. I wasn't. Our cafeteria sucks and I didn't want to risk my health by eating it. Alexys offered me half of her sandwich but I turned it down.

"I know why they visited me. You know too. I was Kat's best friend. What I don't get is why they visited you. You're the last person I would've associated Kat with," Alexys told me. This hurt a lot coming from Kat's best friend.

"I just...I paid her," I shrugged and looked down.

"Oh my god, prostitution?!" Alexys said. I looked up and saw the sparkle in her eye that said she was kidding. I shook my head no and gave a little laugh.

"Just kidding, if you wanted sex that bad you would just go to Emma," Alexys said and rolled her eyes. I glared at her and she raised her hands in the air.

"Kat offered to do my chores if I paid her. She wrote down every time I paid her and the detectives found it. Then they came to me," I explained.

"Wow. That's how she got the money. I've been thinking all this time about where she got the money to do this," Alexys said and I nodded my head.

"What'd they ask you about?" I asked her.

"The common 'were you her partner in crime' questions. That Detective Reagan guy was pissed at me. I think he's just naturally like that though," Alexys told me.

"He was pissed at me too," I agreed.

"Yeah, he kept blaming me. Like, he actually thought I would put my best friend in harms way?! No! If anything I'd advise her against running away and then if she did I would go straight to the police," Alexys said.

"So, do you have any idea where she went?" I asked.

"No," Alexys shook her head, "She was really closed up for a good five months. Then she left. I thought she got sick or something. She wasn't though. We were hanging out one day and then she was gone."

"It's a mystery," I sighed.

"She's always been a mystery, Jonah, even to me," Alexys told me.

(Time skip - Jonah's laying in his bed but can't fall asleep)

I was laying in my bed, looking up at my ceiling. I couldn't fall asleep. So many questions raced my mind.

Was she okay?
Where was she?
Is she thinking about me or Alexys?

I couldn't answer the questions though and I think that was what was truly bothering me.

Someone knocked on my window, scaring me half to death. I thought it would be Josh. He always was trying to get me to sneak out and go to some party with him. I walked over to my window and opened it, looking at the ground the whole time. I didn't want to see the smeared lipstick on his lips or a fresh hickey on his neck. Now just wasn't the time.

"Okay, Josh, I hate parties and I don't wa-"

"Stop whining. Let me in, it's cold out here," a girl said.

I looked up to see a head full of brown curls and a wide smile. Alexys? I walked out of the way and she climbed into my room.

"Okay, Jonah, so you ready for some midnight mystery solving?" Alexys smiled and did jazz hands.
