"Let's start with the things that make you smile, not really happy, but not sad." He suggested. I took a deep breath, although it was useless, considering I didn't need oxygen either.
"Like I said, why be happy when I spend all my time protecting my family." I shrugged.
"Lets start there then, I hope your family makes you at least smile." He smirked and sat back. "Tell me about them, their names, ages, and this family is rumored to be the only one with powers." I nodded at this. 'wait, should I be doing this. He is human! What if I cant trust him?' I asked myself. 'Well, I guess I could read his thoughts to see his true intention.' I thought to myself.
'This girl, there is something about her, something I can't put my finger on,' he thought, studying me 'but I will do everything to find out what' I smiled slightly. I felt myself trusting this strange boy.
"Alright, there's me, Nina, Harry, Ashton, and Ben. I am the leader and creator, meaning that I am the only one here able to change someone into an immortal." He nodded, as if saying 'go on.' "Nina and I were friends since birth, and when I was changed, well I didn't take it so well. I rose against my creator, a member of the Council, that's why I am a Creator. If someone is changed by a Council member, then they are a Creator, and then a Creator creates more immortals, and then so on and so on. Anyway, I revolted against him, for making me this," I motioned to myself, meaning an immortal. "I turned her so that I wouldn't be alone. She seemed perfectly cool with it, considering she always wanted to have an interesting life. That was about a hundred years ago, I think. Next was Ben, he came around thirty years ago. He fell in love with me, and I fell for him, but we couldn't be together because I was a monster and he was a human. Therefore, I changed him so we could be together. Then the war between the vampires and the humans started and we just become best friends, as close as Nina and I. We never got to get married and live happily ever after like I hoped, but that's the past." I whispered the last part, wishing that I was able to shed these invisible tears, but of course, immortals cannot create tears.
"What about, what were their names, Henry and Ashley?" I laughed at Luke's interpretation of their names and shook my head.
"Harry and Ashton." I corrected and he nodded again. "Ash, he came along during the war, he was apart of the few humans that were fighting on our side. He became my friend and asked me to change him so he could continue fighting until this war ended. And Harry, oh Harry, he just joined the group this year. I found him struck with poverty, and he asked me to help. I told him what I was, and he begged me to change him. He's still being trained, so don't go too near him, he can't control his own strength." I laughed, and so did Luke. We spent what seemed like hours talking, and most of the time I asked about him, well, humans. It has been a while since I have talked to a human about themselves. Every time I have spoken to on in the past, it either was during a riot, giving them information on their soon-to-be vampire status, or tell them that we were not going to give in and hide. I asked about the tint of pink in his cheeks, he called it a blush. He also told me that they need at least eight hours of sleep, and that oxygen was a must. As he told me these things, they slowly started to reappear in my memory, making me realize that my small touches of humanity were long lost, but Luke brings them back just as easily as they disappeared. But there was this one thought that kept repeating itself in my mind, 'I must not fall for a human again, I will not allow his own kind to hurt him.'
