Chapter Fifteen

A week before Noah's party and we're all walking to the lunch table. Everyone looks so cute in their uniforms and the girls decided we'd get matching ones. "You look so gorgeous." Noah smirks as he looks me up and down. My red and black skirt flares out from underneath my black blazer. The white school shirt is neatly tucked in with a wine red tie hanging loosely around my neck. "You don't look so bad yourself." I've been smirking at Noah's outfit all day. The black school pants sit tightly around his butt and the white shirt stretches around his biceps. His tie also hangs loosely and his blazer is hanging over his arm. I absolutely love it on him.

"Guys, spring hasn't even started and I'm dying." Cooper waves at his forehead.

"You are exaggerating." Tori comments as she sits down beside me. Her uniform sits absolutely perfect on her. She decided to go for the red knee highs like I did. Probably why Noah is drooling all over me.

"Do you guys have plans this afternoon?" She looks at me and Noah before picking up a sandwich. "Yes. We're going to the archery field." Noah answers.

We haven't gone there in weeks and I need to get Noah ready for hunting season. It's always in summer and hunters from all over come to partake in the activities. I've been to a few with my parents and I can honestly tell you, it's a lot of fun. I hope to see some of my old friends there too.

After school, Noah and I head to our homes to get dressed and then he picks me up. My bow is resting beside his on the backseat of his Range Rover as the sound of Guns N' Roses's Knockin' on Heaven's Door fills the car.

"Knock, knock, knockin' on heaven's door .." I sing quietly as Noah drives through the streets to the archery field. Right after the song ends Victorious of Panic! at the Disco comes on. What a contrast.

"DUBBEL BUBBLE DISCO QUEEN HEADED TO THE GUILLOTINE. SKIN AS COOL AS STEVE MCQUEEN, LET ME BE YOUR KILLER KING." Noah and I belt out again the words to an awesome song. We love having these moments. I laugh to myself as Noah attempts Brendon Urie's high pitch.

We make it to the archery field in time to see a blue Jeep park near the entrance. A girl with a dark skintone climbs out the passenger side and a guy with also fairly tan skin and dark hair steps from the driver's side. They both go round and retrieve excellent made compound bows from the back. Noah parks his car next to the Jeep and I jump out to get my bow.

The couple eyes us as we walk into the shooting range and we get arrows. While I teach Noah to shoot perfectly, the girl walks up to us and practically stares at the way I hold the bow. "I'm sorry. Can I help you?" I lower my bow and she smiles.

"I'm Alexia Mason. Sorry for staring but I knew a girl who held her bow exactly the same way and in fact, has exactly the same bow." I almost drop my bow. The Mason's. They were friends of my parents. And I'm looking at little Al.

"You alright, Alexia?" The guy questions and I look at him. He also looks so familiar.

"Yeah, I'm fine. This is Ryan Wood, my boyfriend."

"I know you." I say quietly and Alexia frowns. Noah looks at me. "I'm Layla Archer. Our parents were friends." I see something like recognition flicker across her eyes. "Layla?" Her eyes tear up and she flings her arms around me.

I welcome the gesture but feel a bit claustrophobic after a while. I let go of Alexia and step back. Tear flow freely from her eyes. "We thought you were dead or something."

All the while, Ryan is just standing there. "So you're dating fatty Ryan now? Gotta say, puberty did you good." We laugh.

"I'm so confused." Noah says. Oh shit, I totally forgot about him. I turn towards him with a shy smile.

"Alexia's parents were friends with my parents so we saw each other often at competitions and hunting trips. Ryan was just a fat little kid that pestered us." Ryan snorts and we all laugh.

"And this hottie?" I blush as Alexia eyes Noah. "This is Noah. My uh, my friend." I frown because Noah and I haven't talked about what we are. "Just friends huh?" Alexia smirks. "Sorta."

We spend the rest of the afternoon shooting arrows and talking about our childhood. I got a score sheet full of bullseyes and ones. Alexia even challanged me, but luckily I know how to treat the compound bow competer. Afterwards we went for some ice cream. It felt good seeing Alexia. She told us she and Ryan will be at hunting season so we can join their team.

"You ok? You barely touched your food." Josh asks as we sit around the kitchenette counter. "Yeah yeah. Just saw some old friends today. They came to the shooting range for practice." I pick up some spinach with my fork. It's a rich green color and looks absolutely delicious. Josh knows how to cook. "That's nice. Are they going to hunting season?" He smiles at me. "Yeah. We're teaming up with them." Josh and I talk about the activities and how we'll partake in them.

It's a really easy course though. Some of the activities involve long distance shooting and others require a set of targets. The longbow shooters do better in the set of targets. I don't know why.

My phone vibrates in my hand.
