Being a mother isn't what it's cracked up to be. Especially with twins, twin boys. It was only six months ago that they were brought into the world. Michael Troy Brown and Maurice Isaiah Brown. They are literal opposites. Michael barely cries when Maurice will keep you up all night. Michael loves attention when Maurice doesn't like people being all in his face. Maurice loves to sleep with his pacifier and Michael hates it. Michael hates drinking formula milk while Maurice loves it. But Chris and I adore them equally. Speaking of Chris, he's always next to them, always tends to their needs. I mean, I do offer to help but he shoos me away and tells me "I got it." I at least want to help just once. Then he can have them. We've been trying to teach the twins to speak. Chris thinks that Michael will speak first, I believe that Maurice will be the one to say something first. So I guess you can say that we're at a little "war" I suppose.
"You ready for Michael to say his first word yet?" Chris teased.
"You're wrong, Maurice will speak first." I challenged, with a devious smirk.
"Whatever you say." Chris grinned.
"Oh shut up and make Maurice's formula!" I replied, walking up to the twins room.
Michael was asleep while, Maurice was rolling and thrashing around in his crib. I walked over to his crib and looked inside.
"Aw, look at mama's baby." I picked him up and sat him on my lap on the floor.
He looked up at me, while I smiled at him.
"Now, can you say mama?" I asked.
He just stared at me and reached for my necklace.
"No no no. That's mommy's necklace. Your daddy gave it to me." I informed.
He smiled and slobbered a bit. I laid him out on the floor for him to crawl around while I got a few toys from the bin for him to play with. I held up a little dog puppet which got Maurice's attention. He crawled over to me and stared at the puppet in amazement.
"Well hello there Maurice. My name is Buddy. Do you wanna be my friend?" I said, in a cartoon voice.
Maurice smiled.
I kept talking to him through "Buddy" until I smelled something. I cautiously put Buddy down and grabbed Maurice, and sniffed his diaper. I immediately regretted it, it smelt horrible.
"Ugh, you stink."
Maurice only giggled.
"It's not funny little man." I put him on the changing table and reached for a new diaper and some wipes.
I unlatched his diaper and wiped him down.
"Mama's baby is stinky, mama's baby is stinky." I chanted.
Maurice kept smiling as I finally put a new diaper on him and threw the dirty one away. I put him in his crib and started to walk out the when,
"Mama."
I gasped lightly and walked back in, and to Maurice's crib.
"Mama." Maurice reached out to me and started to whine.
I picked him up and went downstairs to see Chris in the living room.
"Guess who spoke their first word." I beamed.
"Michael." Chris replied.
"Nope. Maurice." I admitted, smiling hard.
"Aww little man." Chris took Maurice from my hands. "You were supposed to let Michael say his first word first." Chris whined, as he did a pouty face.
Maurice laughed and grabbed his face.
