I can't stop looking at his hearing aids.
I force myself to stop. I look down at my untouched pizza slice, calling on me to eat it. I take a small bite and look up to see the boy staring at me.
Well he does have a name, so I guess I'll call him by it: Noah.
He's new boy coming to the school. He just moved here from somewhere over the mountain I have no idea. I think Florida? Why he would move here to Texas, I have no clue.
He's got his schedule and it seems he's in my Art and English class. I'll have someone to "talk" to now.
Angel is telling Noah about the school. But like before, he isn't looking at her. "Take a picture, it'll last longer" he smirks and turns to Angel. Maple is nowhere to be seen. I think she's skating with a different boy she found.
Angel suddenly stands up and excuses herself. Thanks for leaving me alone with this random kid we found, Ang.
I look over at Noah and he smiles sweetly. "Tell me about you."
"What would you like to know?" I raise my eyebrows. There's not much to tell.
"Anything. What do you like to do?"
"I like to run, I'm on Track. I love music. I like to draw... How about you?" It takes him a second to read. Then he puts his hands to his chin, thinking.
"I like to cook and bake. I could make you anything you ask for. I like math, crazy I know. I play the drums." He laughs at my surprised expression. "I know, i know. How could a deaf kid play the drums right?"
I shake my head and scribble something down quickly. "It's not that, I just don't really know anyone who plays the drums. It's cool".
Suddenly I feel someone's presence next to me and I look up to see Maple. "Hi. What's your name?" she asks Noah in a flirty tone.
He extends his hand "Noah McPert. I'm new here, and starting your school next week. You are?"
She shakes his hand and flips her hair. I roll my eyes. "Maple Zasn. I see you've met my home-girl. Where's Angel?"
I pull the cap off my marker but Noah saves me the time. "She went to the bathroom. But that was awhile ago so I'm not sure." I mentally thank him. As if on cue, I see Angel walking over to us, laughing with Luke. I smile. Angel trying to flirt is the funniest thing ever. I wave to Angel and she smiles. "Sorry guys, I ran into Luke. You're mom called, Macy. She said she wants you guys home soon." I roll my eyes and nod.
Luke notices Noah for the first time and straightens. "Who's this?" I can see in his eyes that he doesn't approve. I look and Maple and she nods. "Noah." she bats her eyelashes at him, "He's new to our town, and coming to our school." Noah smiles and holds his hand out to Luke. He stares at it. He rolls his eyes, "You ready?" Luke looks over at me. I blink and he takes that as, 'do I have a choice?".
"Need a ride?" I ask Noah, politely. He smiles. "Would that be okay?"
Angel winks at me, "Of course. Your house can't be that far." Luke starts to protest but Angel gives him the hand. He glares at Noah. I roll my eyes, Luke needs to loosen up. Noah offers to take my roller skates up front, what a gentleman.
I make sure to grab my whiteboard, but can't find the marker. Great... Now i can't speak. That was my favorite marker too. Luke raises an eyebrow and I shake my hand at him. I see Kevin laughing with his friends and he waves at me. I shyly wave back at him. Noah squints over in Kevin's direction. I give him a look like, "it's nothing" and he shrugs.
