It was a normal night in Metropolis, the last rays of sunlight reflecting in the water of the bay and giving it a golden hue.
The streets were filled with cars and people, bustling with activity despite night hovering closer.
In a certain apartment, a young boy dressed in a superman hoodie was complaining to his parents.
"But mom!" he said, "It's Friday, Damian's dad lets him stay out all night.
"Damian's dad dresses like a bat and gets hit in the head 28 times every night. So maybe not the best argument." his father answered.
"Yet he is the world's greatest detective, dad. And he's sorta the leader of the league, so maybe yours isn't the best argument either."
Jon realised what he said and aknowledge that he was, in fact, spending too much time with Damian. His constant praise for Batman was rubbing off on him.
"He got you there, dear." Lois chukeld.
"Okay, you can stay out an extra half hour but you have to be back on the dot." Clark tried to sound strict.
"Thanks dad!" Jon yelled with excitement as he ran to hug his father.
"And remember, what are we helping folks for, buddy?" Clark asked, smiling.
"Good people get involved." Jon answered cheerfully.
"Bingo. Take the skylight."
The young boy waved at his parents as he went out the window and started to jump from rooftop to rooftop heeded towards their usual meeting spot, where his partner was waiting for him.
It was times like this when he really wished he could fly, that way he could meet up with Demian in an instant, but his kryptonian powers hadn't fully developed yet.
His dad insisted that he would learn soon enough and then they could fly around the city together, but that only made him more impatient.
Jon slowed down as he saw Robin a few buildings away, leaning on the edge of the rooftop, his cape flapping behind him.
He was in his usual broding pose, perched like a gargoyl as he overlooked the city.
With one last jump, Jon landed beside him.
"Sorry I'm late Robin! He began. "My mom washed my costumed but put it with my PJs so I had to go..."
He was cut off by a finger on his lips.
He would have gone mad if it was another person doing such a thing, but he had come to accept that Robin wasn't like the rest and that he didn't understand very well when he was being rude.
Besides, it was kind of fun to watch a kid shorter than himself be so bossy.
"Less talk." Robin said. "You are a soldier and you are on duty. This is a uniform not a costume."
He slipped on his hood and jumped from the rooftop.
"Your training begins now." Robin said in a very serious tone that made Jon laugh in the inside.
"Training? Who said you were training me?" Jon asked as he jumped to follow him.
The night went on without too much trouble. They helped a few people with minor problems like changing tires or picking cats from trees.
They also stop a few burglary attempts and Jon managed to prevent Damian from beating a jaywalker.
After an hour and a half they were resting a little on a rooftop. Damian was using the communicator in his glove and seemed a bit concerned.
