~Tord's P.O.V~
I hadn't noticed myself falling asleep, now I did notice the dull pain in my back from sleeping on the sand. Grumbling my displeasures to myself I slowly sat up, blinking in surprise at the warmth plastered to my side. Glancing over it took all my willpower not to jump away.
I had... or... maybe Tom had moved towards me? Pinching the bridge of my nose I stiffened as my companion shifted, a soft exhale escaping his parted lips before he fell silent. His arm had been draped around my shoulders at one point based on where it lay now. "Ngl..." I turned away, ignoring the light pink dusted across my cheeks I took a deep breath before turning to face him, lightly shaking him with my good arm. "Tomas, time to wake up."
He grumbled, blackened voids slowly becoming aware of the world as he sat up. "What-" He didn't finish the sentence, I guess he remembered. "Think I could fly?" I stared at him, was he crazy? Risking injury simply to head to who knows where. "Tomas we don't even know where we are!" I exclaimed slightly louder than I meant to.
"Well, maybe we aren't as far as we think." He shot back stubbornly, lifting himself up from the ground he flapped his wings once in a slow, fluid motion to test them. "Not damaged..." He sighed in relief, glancing up with a slight smirk. Before I could provide any voice of reason he ran towards the water.
Jumping with a hard flap he managed to bring himself to a hover, his wing beats causing ripples in the waters below. "Told ya I could manage!" He shouted to me from my stationary place. Shaking my head I watched him test his limits, flying high only to swoop low, the waters parting in his wake. I wished I could join him but-
I found that the ground below disappeared, a pair of arms wrapped around me. "Tomas!" I yelped in surprise as he flew us up. I found my good arm grasping his arms, the nagging fear that he could drop me caused me to will my grip even tighter. "Tsk, relax Commie, not like I'll drop ya." He pointed out casually as we flew over the trees of the island.
The feeling of the wind on my face was rather relaxing, yet thrilling. God, I missed flying... Next thing I knew Tom was flapping rapidly, each movement seems to cause a wave of pain to go through the male carrying me.
"Tom?" We were losing altitude, and quickly. I wriggled around for a moment. If I could just- He pitched forward, wings snapping open we shot up at an angle, narrowly avoiding a tree. He seemed tired, shoulders sagging with the effort of carrying me. We landed haphazardly in a bush, Tom never relinquishing his hold on me, even throughout the tumbling we did.
Once we came to a complete stop he loosened his grip, allowing me to get up as he lay in the bush, staring up at nothing. "Well, that certainly was-" "Awful? Horrible?" I blinked, staring at him in confusion. I wasn't going to say either of those things. "Tsk" he pulled himself forward, wings half opened as he dusted the twigs and leaves from his tattered clothing. "Whatever."
He walked off in a random direction, leaving me with two thoughts. 'What the hell is wrong with Tom?' And 'Where the fuck is Tom going?' Sighing I quickly ran after him, after all, being on my own with only one fully functioning arm put the odds greatly against my favor.
"Tomas!" I growled, following him through plenty of trees and thickets before we reached a clearing. He paused briefly before his arms went up to protect his face, falling backward into the grass pollen was sent into the air. An arrow embedded itself into the wood near my head.
If Tom hadn't ducked... I shook my head, gaze set on the trees. I could see the bows, and a set of arms around the trees, the shadows giving the people cover. Another arrow was fired, lodging itself in Tom's shoulder.
The shriek I heard was not human in the slightest. Tom had begun shifting, his ears blackened and turned into points, horns slowly grew from his head, fingertips turning black as nails grew sharp. A growl escaped his throat, a tail lashing behind him as his stance lowered into a predatory style.
When the next arrow fired Tom easily evaded, springing left while darting towards the trees. I watched with wide eyes as he jumped forward, a single slash of his claws taking down a person, and the tree with it. Sharp grunts of pain would escape him now and then as arrows grazed or stabbed into softer portions that were still currently human.
He only half shifted... "Tomas!" I shouted, man if I hadn't felt useless before I sure do now. The hybrid who at one point had been a friend to me sent blood cascading down on the grass as he slashed and ripped people in half. He continued his murder rampage until the survivors fled. With nothing left Tom limped off into the trees, his blood a mix of purple and red depending on where he had been hit.
Naturally, I followed the blood trail, having lost sight of him I ran through the woods until I came to the edge. The cliff went up and dropped off to the sharp rocks below, seawater lapping over them occasionally. Tom had collapsed near the edge, his arms wrapped around his middle as he lay in pain. I would've gone to him, but the sound of bushes crackling made me flinched, I didn't have my weapons...
A few people slowly approached Tom, prodding him with the end of their spears. He barely reacted at all. Seeing as the hybrid wasn't attacking they lifted him up and carried him to the edge. My voice caught in my throat as I watched them throw him over the edge. Only when he disappeared from sight did I get my limbs moving.
I ran, my jacket slipping from my arms as I jumped. "Tomas! You have to fly!" No response. I managed to catch up to him, my arms wrapping firmly around his body.
He was falling...
We were falling...
We can't...
I can't...
"Damn it!"
My wings snapped open.
