Katherine was wide-eyed, taking a step away from him and letting her hands drop to her side. "What?"
"I don't know why." He explained unsurely. "You were up and about, and I just decided to take this weird knife and stab you... a few times. Then I realized what I did and started to panic." He looked into her eyes earnestly. "I have no idea where it came from, and I didn't want to kill you... it just happened."
She nodded slightly, "Okay."
He cringed and clutched his head, crying out in pain. "What the..." He growled, doubling over.
"Shh." She shushed him slightly, glancing at Fia's room. "I need her to fall asleep, come on." She grabbed his hand and pulled him into the room, shutting it after her.
Griffin didn't even seem to realize what was going on and just stumbled after her, sweating profusely and shuddering all over again.
"Come on, lay down. You're just tired." She led him to the bed and forced him to lay down before hurrying to the bathroom and getting him a wet washcloth. She gently laid it across his forehead.
He caught his breath and arched his back a little bit as another apparent wave of pain seared his head. "Crap, Katherine. I'm sorry."
She shushed him sweetly again. "Just go to bed, you need to sleep."
"There is no way I'm sleeping with this." He told her through gritted teeth. "But you can go to bed; there's nothing more for you to do than feel good yourself."
She gently climbed over him and laid down next to him, snuggling close again. "I'm sure it was just a nightmare."
"It was no nightmare." He replied darkly. Then, he sunk into the bed a little bit. "And now the headache is gone." She could hear the confused relief on his voice.
"Then go to bed." She said, glancing up at him worriedly.
"I just killed you." He stated rawly. "I think I need some time awake to think."
She nodded slightly. "Okay." She let her body relax and her breathing evened out before she turned away from him and balled herself up.
"I know you're not asleep." He said quietly, his tone once again wounded, but likely for much different reasons.
She sighed slightly but didn't roll back over. After a couple of minutes she eventually huffed and turned around again, this time to face him, her eyes still closed. "I don't know what I'm supposed to do in this situation."
"You're not supposed to do anything, Katherine. Just don't pretend to be okay if you're not, and don't try to trick me. You're bad at it." He sighed, looking up at the ceiling, the washcloth still over his forehead.
"Yeah yeah, not my fault you can read people." She said almost annoyedly. "And I want to believe this is just some nightmare that we'll laugh about it the future, but I don't feel right about it and I don't like it."
Before he could respond, Katherine's phone rang. She sighed, again, and reached over him, grabbing her phone off of the bed side table. "Hello?"
She waited for a moment before sitting up, "Okay, okay, yeah. Come on over. It's gonna be fine. Okay? You'll be fine." She hung up the phone and rolled off the other side of the bed. "I'm sorry. I have to go. Alice needs me. She'll be here soon."
He nodded, getting up as well and walking around the four-post bed to hug her tightly. Then he kissed her assuringly and watched her leave the room from his feet. When she got into the hallway, Katherine heard little notes coming from Fia's room. She was singing, but quietly, and was probably just sitting in her bed messing with the sheets.
