Chapter 12

Maddie's POV

"So, I guess it's back to Cade's place again," Caleb sighs, sitting on my couch, "I'll have to go to the house and get my stuff again."

"I have a better idea," I say, nervously.

"What?" He asks, curiously.

"Why don't you just move in with me," I blurt out.

"With you?" He raises his eyebrows, "I don't know.."

"I don't want you to feel pressured or anything, I'm just throwing that out there as an option."

Was that a good idea?

His phone dings and he looks at his screen and sighs, "Well."

"Everything okay?" I ask.

He looks up at me, "Bella just signed the divorce papers."

"Oh," is all I say.

"I'm gonna go pick them up and file them," he says, standing up.

"Okay," I nod.

"I'd like to stop by again after if that's okay," he says.

"Of course. You're welcome here anytime," I smile and he smiles back.

About five minutes later I hear another knock on the door. I open it and Gabby welcomes herself in.

"That bitch," she mumbles.

"Bella?"

"Yes! Can you believe what she's done now?" She asks.

"What did she do?"

"She called Cade and was begging him to talk to Caleb for her and try to convince him to go back to her. And then she acted all innocent like she didn't know why he left. I mean, seriously? She said it was only that one night. It obviously wasn't," she rambles.

"Oh my gosh," I roll my eyes.

"Yeah. And Cade said that if she cared about Caleb, even just the slightest bit, that she would sign the papers if that's what he wanted."

"Well, I guess he got through to her then," I say.

"What do you mean?"

I look at her for a moment, "she signed the papers. Caleb is gone to file them now."

About an hour later, I hear a soft knock on my door. I open it and see Caleb standing with his hands in his pockets.

"They're filed," he says.

"Wow," I say softly.

He holds out his left hand and stares at it for a moment, before sliding his wedding ring off. I look up into his eyes and he looks back at me. He puts the ring in his pocket before going over and sitting on the couch. I go over and sit beside of him.

"Maddie?" He says.

"Yeah?"

He gives me a soft smile, "I know you would never do to me what Bella did."
