PoV: Not-Megan
"Enemies of my home," I said, then noticed eight people getting out of a utility van across the street.
"What is it?" Kaylee asked.
"Speaking of enemies," I muttered to myself, then spoke to her. "I have to go now, Kaylee. I'm sorry. Please, find your mother, and stay safe."
My mind was whirring, trying to think of a way to convince the oncoming agents that I did not know Kaylee. I finally came up with an idea, and put it into action.
Stepping forward, I shoved Kaylee back and yelled, "I don't have any spare change! Leave me alone!" then turned and sprinted down the street.
After passing a couple restaurants and cafes, I glanced behind me and saw that the agents had crossed the street and were behind me.
Perfect, I thought to myself. I then ran across the street, speed vaulted over the hood of a car, and got honked at a couple of times.
When I had made it across the street, I began to run towards the apartment area of downtown.
Once I got there, I slowed to a fast walk, slipped down a backstreet, then turned a corner in the alleyway. I spotted a closed dumpster up ahead, and just beside and above was a fire escape.
I smiled, ran at the dumpster, leapt onto it, and pulled myself onto the first level of the fire escape.
I crouched there, slowing my breathing, and thinking about all that had happened in the last few minutes, Kaylee had found me! That was impressive and kind of scary. Had I lost my knack that much? And I had told her I wasn't actually named Megan. Why had I done that? At least I hadn't told her my real name.
I almost laughed out loud as I pictured her reaction.Voices came from below me. I froze, then looked down.
Four people were below, all with their guns out and looking very jumpy.
Only four agents? I thought. That must mean the others were left at the entrance to the alleyway. Unless they thought Kaylee was with me... I shook my head violently. I couldn't afford to be concerned about her. Despite that decision, a part of my mind continued to fret about her.
I watched the agents below as they moved past me, continuing along the alleyway. Taking a deep breath,I closed my eyes, trying to slip back into the person who could deal with this situation. The agent of C.A.S.T.L.E, not the geeky fangirl. Goodbye Megan. I thought, I will miss you.
Finding the secret agent in me, I started to look at the situation. The fresh perspective helped, and I had soon made a plan and put it into action.
I sat waiting until the agents had moved around the corner, then started counting two minutes. Once I'd counted to 120, I jumped down onto the lid of the dumpster. Clang! I winced at the noise, but kept moving. I went back the way I had come, stopping at the corner to peek around it.
There were four people around the corner. As I looked, I realized that if I'd just walked around the corner, I would have walked right into two agents. I ducked back behind the corner.
The other two were waiting just across from the two that were around the corner. If they had been more alert, they would have seen me.
I stood with my back against the wall, feeling the adrenaline coming. I peeked quickly around the corner again, then took a deep breath, letting the excitement flow through me.
Stepping around the corner, I punched one agent in the face. Spinning, I elbowed agent two in the stomach, then grabbed his handgun barrel and yanked it forward, throwing him off balance. I followed it up by slamming my arm down on his wrist, forcing him to drop the gun, then elbowed behind me, hitting agent one again. All of this had happened in three, maybe five seconds. The two agents across the street just stood there, frozen, possibly in shock because of my sudden appearance.
In a couple swift steps, I crossed the narrow alleyway and punched the third agent in the stomach, kicked the fourth agent's hand, making her drop the gun.
As she cradled her hand, I ducked down, grabbing her gun. Before I could get up again, something hit me on the back of my head. I went down on my hands and knees, trying to shrug off the dizziness.
A second later, I had a grip on myself again. I rolled over and kicked the third agent's legs out from under her, then came up in a crouch, and swung the butt of the pistol at the head of the fourth agent. I realized that based on she was standing, it was the third agent who had hit my head. Repaying the favor, I knocked her out, then turned back towards the first two agents, realizing that agent two had his gun pointed at me. Time seemed to slow down slightly as his finger started to pull the trigger.
I froze, panicking, then my instincts kicked in. I leapt forward diagonally, aiming to land next to the agent with the gun.
I felt the bullet graze by me, taking some cloth off my sweater.
As I landed, time sped up again. I swiftly disarmed agent two, then knocked him out with the butt of his pistol.
I found myself grinning as I faced off with the first agent. My grin got even bigger as I realized how scared he was. Wow, I've missed scaring people! I thought to myself.
"Listen," he said, "Whatever you did, if you come in with me, I'm sure we can figure this out without anyone else getting hurt."
"You don't know why you are after me?" I was shocked that the CIA cared so little about it's agents. "You got no briefing about who I am or why I need to be apprehended?"
He looked doubtful for a second, then suddenly suspicious. "I am not going to be lured into a conversation."
He attacked, making me drop my gun. Normally I would have counterattacked, but after all that time as Megan, it didn't feel right to be that ruthless, "What was that about no one else getting hurt?" I asked.
He tried to hit me a couple more times, and each time, I blocked or deflected each blow easily.
Another flurry of blows came, and this time, one hit home. When it hit, it felt surprisingly good. I instinctively hit back, breaking his nose. I blinked in surprise, I guess I have forgotten my own strength...
He came at me yet again, and as I deflected and blocked his attacks, I realized that I had to hit back, or he would win.
I ducked his swing at my head, then kicked at his leg, hitting one specific nerve. His leg locked up, and I took a step back, out of his reach.
"What? How..." the man said, trying to move his leg.
I smirked, "I'm sorry, but I really must be going."
I turned to leave, then froze, seeing the figure standing in the entrance to the alleyway.
"Wow," Kaylee said, "That was... incredible."
