It's just a normal day in Road Way High. Everyone stays on social media and the couples are never to be seen. Except for Zoe and I, we are always in plain sight. Everyone calls us the perfect couple because we are always happy, but that's how it always is. We never have had any complications.
"Hey Alex," Zoe walked up and put my arm around herself.
"Hey baby girl," she uncontrollably blushes, "am I still taking you home today?"
"Yeah," as she looks me in my eyes I knew something wasn't right.
"Can we talk in private, Zoe?"
"I'm going to be late for cheer practice, see you later." She basically ran away at my question."Dang man. Sounds like your losing her," T.J. said in a serious voice for the first time in forever.
"That can't be, just something is wrong," I replied hoping.
"Anyways, I gotta go. I can't be late to another class or i'm out of school."
"Whatever T.J." I replied as I realized that I was already late. I rushed to class without taking a breathe. As I sat down, I looked around to see none of the girls there. So I asked, "Mr. Brown, why isn't the girls here?"
"They all have cheer practice and honestly leave if you want to," his robot voice almost put me to sleep in just a matter of a sentence.I grabbed my bag and walked into the hallway to see five guys in my class waiting for me.
"Alex," one of them whispered, "Alex."
I turned around to see them motioning me to come over. I accidentally made eye contact so i couldn't just turn back around.
"Hey, guys." I said in a 'I don't really want to talk right now' way.
"So let's just skip to the point. So Zoe is you girlfriend right?" The dude with a yellow shirt asked and waited for a response, I just nodded. "People been talking and saying she's becoming anorexic."
"That's not true at all," I just walked away and out the doors to the school's football field in anger.
I looked over at the cheerleaders and finally spotted Zoe. I signaled for her to come over and she just lip-said 'practice is almost over.' I didn't want to stay any longer but the big game was tonight. Twenty minutes later she came running over.
"Don't you get hot in long sleeves?" I asked with supposition.
"Yeah but it's our uniform," her response was the truth but it wasn't only in cheer. "Can we leave? I have to get ready for the game," she kept pulling her sleeves over her hands.
As we walked to my truck I could tell she was nervous. We didn't say anything until we almost reached her house. She looked over at the driveway then slouched down. " Alex, go now," her words started to slow but I didn't ask questions, I just left.
When we got back to my house she took off her uniform and threw it in the washer. She walked in my room in baggy sweatpants and a hoodie. "So, what should I do for my make-up?"
" Your gold eyeshadow to match your uniform with fake eyelashes and nude colored lipstick," I tried to over rate my voice so I sounded professional. She laughed and started to work on her foundation. "Um, I never said foundation?"
"We have too, it's a rule," when I saw her without her makeup I noticed her right eye was really dark.
"Zoe, look at me," I could tell I was being strict.
"Hold on a minute, I have to finish this before it gets to dry," she quickly put foundation on.
"Now!" I yelled at her and the look she gave my was fear. "I'm sorry Zoe but what happened to your eye?"
"Um, I ran into a tree branch when I was playing tag with my nieces." Zoe started playing with here sleeves again.
"I don't believe you, come here." I patted the bed as I sat down. "Let me see your arms."
"Alex, you know I have to get ready, can we do this later?" Zoe got up and hung up her uniform then finished her makeup.
When she was doing that I started to do her hair. I had to straighten her long, silk brown hair before I put it In a braided back pony tail. I wrapped a piece of hair around to hair tie so you couldn't see it, then I curled her ponytail.
It was time to leave so she rushed to get her a little-damp uniform on. She ran to my truck as I looked for my keys. When I got in she grabbed to keys and started the car. As I started driving I looked over and realized she was extra jumpy. "Zoe, there is no need to be nervous," she just smiled.
"Can I stay at your house afterwards?" The way she looked at me kinda made me scared to let her go.
"Yeah, I'll pick you up. Sorry I can't stay, my sister is at her swim meet and if I leave her she will go crazy." I made a goofy face and Zoe laughed.
"I understand, See ya." She was already out of the truck before I could respond. I know something's wrong but I just can't figure it out.
