Chapter 4: Matt's POV
"My point is you get a few extra days on the bet okay? And I'll text you later about stuff you may want to know about Christy. I gotta go now. Bye bro!"
As soon as I hung up on Luke, I regretted every damn thing I had just said to him. Why in the world would I set him up like that? Luke is a great friend of mine, but so was she. Ever since that day, she told me she was leaving, She changed. And I don't think It was one of the best changes that have happened to her yet.
I started to get my stuff packed for the trip. I was actually kinda worried about Christy. She would have to deal with Luke for spring break. Haha, I feel so bad for my dear, old friend. But I think she will be able to handle him.
Time Skip: Morning of the trip
Matt's dad is on the phone talking to one of his co-workers to set up a date for when they should meet up to talk. While Matt's mom is trying to encourage her son that they will have a good trip and make good memories. Matt on the other hand, well, he just wishes that he could be with his friends right now playing games or even just talking to them.
As they board the plane, Matt puts on his earbuds and plays his music to try and distract him from everything around him and different events that may occur in the future. But just putting on his music was just another huge mistake. All he thought about during the flight was, 'How will Christy and Luke get along? Was it a good choice to even do this to both of them?' Soon, Chris was able to get these thoughts out of his head. Because he was at their destination. Los Angeles, California.
As soon as I got off the plane, I was exhausted. I just wanted to sleep the jet lag off as my life depended on it. My parents and I got to our hotel and started to unpack. My mom decided she wanted to go and look around with my dad. But I just decided to stay back. My parents were okay with it because it was a long trip after all. As soon as they left I started to just work on my school work and later took a nap.
So far, this so-called 'vacation' was turning out to be pretty chill. I hope the rest of the trip is like this.
I decided to call Luke to see how he was doing as well as how everyone else is doing back home.
I dialed Luke's number and then the first thing I heard was the last thing I ever wanted to hear for a lifetime.
Luke's POV:
I was watching a movie with Andrew and Tyler at my place at well, 2 am in the morning. You can't blame me for them wanting to stay up though! They both decided on there own that they wanted to watch a damn scary-thriller movie at 2 am.
We were getting pretty far into the movie when we heard a loud noise. We all freaked out for a bit, but then found out it was my phone. I answered it because it was Matt, but we still had the movie going on.
I was about to say hello when someone just got murdered on the movie and we all screamed when the murderer looked straight at us.
"EEEEKKKK," we all said in unison.
But we all forgot that Matt was on the phone when we suddenly heard laughing. It was Matt. He was dying of laughter at our fear of the damn movie the two idiots decided to watch. Soon, Tyler and Andrew fell asleep and I was able to talk with Matt in 'private'.
I told Matt that I had a plan on how to meet with her and even talk with the quiet girl. He helped me out with a bit of info he knew about her.
I'm just really wondering how he knew this stuff about her.
Were they old friends?
Were they a 'thing'?
"Whatever happened to her anyway?" I asked Matt
"I really don't know. She was always so cheerful and happy. But she moved when we were in 4th grade and she came back in our 8th-grade year. I tried talking to her because she was new and all. But it's either she didn't remember me or she just didn't want to talk to anyone. She almost had fear in her eyes as well as emptiness. I really worried about and after a few months, I decided to confront her about it. All she said was,
"Listen, Matt was it? I don't care if you worry for me or not. I have my own problems and you have your own. Just leave me alone. It's for the best of us. I'm sorry...my dear old friend." Christy said to Matt a few years back.
Listen, Luke, all I ask of you is to just be there for her. Just for now. Get to know her and let her trust you as she did with me. Maybe, then, she will open up and tell you or even both of us what happened or how we can even help her." Matt said with much sadness in his voice.
After that conversation ended, I decided I would make sure that this old friend of Matt's will be happy, cheerful like she once was.
My goal is to make Christy the best human being that she can be. I promise Matt. I promise to bring back your old friend once more.
