The irony in the concept of romanticism in the 21st century
- romanticism
rə(ʊ)ˈmantɪsɪz(ə)m/
noun:
a movement in the arts and literature which originated in the late 18th century, emphasizing inspiration, subjectivity, and the primacy of the individual.
This is relating to my current schooling situation, finishing my last year of school and about to head into the final strip of exams (HSC, the Australian Higher School Certificate) and in my Extension English course we're studying the poetry of John Keats, Samuel Coleridge etc and exploring the depth that was the Romantic era circa 1800.
So this is just a little rant about the irony and contrast I have experienced in the studying of Romanticism in this time period.
p.s this was written a first draft and full of some unknown passion that I didn't know I possessed whilst jammin to the latest 5sos album, so yes they'll be mistakes, please forgive.

The glorification of the child is well known if familiar with any Romanticism tenet, yet when placed in a 21st setting, especially within the HSC period it becomes a completely counteractive study subject.
When learning Romanticism you are asked to place yourself in the lives of poetry's greats, Coleridge, Keats, Wordsworth, to personify this need they held to return to the "human savage", the wonder and absolute sublime, in short, it is extreme and heightened emotion.
Yet when it comes to an essay or an analysis of said topics, suddenly you're not allowed to explore such tenets in the forms and construction of your essay?
You must investigate these Romantic texts through a viewpoint must like the age of enlightenment, the very moment these Romantic greats despised and rebelled against, you must structure an essay like this, a beginning, middle, end that's it, no more, no less, no room for true personal expression or imagination, and yet we allow this f/// up system to poison the schools across the country.
In what way do we, the students, grow and learn to "express ourselves"? Or even "find ourselves" as you so bluntly shove down our throats, always begging to repeat that we are all our own individual yet you constrict us to a standardised system of system that strips us of the very own uniqueness you speak of, However you cannot see the irony?
Pardon me for calling out your bs but that is absolutely ridiculous
