Run...
As if she was capable of sending a message mentally, she stared hard at the girl standing idle among the group of teenagers in the middle of a loud house party. The girl was sipping something on a red cup and Lena can only hope that it wasn't laced with some kind of barbiturate.
Kid... Just run...
In the distance down below, a couple of blinking blue and red lights were on its way uphill. She saw it right from where she sat inside her car that was parked at the edge of the hill's rocky cliff. It was heading on a steady pace towards this suburban neighborhood where a couple of elderly retirees reported the disturbing and obnoxiously loud festivities next door.
However, Lena was worried of something else. With a sigh, she gripped the steering wheel of her 1969 matte black camaro as she observed one particular girl in the crowd. By physical appearances, the girl looked just like her fellow teenagers having a blast. But by further observation, Lena can tell that the girl was uncomfortable of being there.
She might have an idea why.
The blue and red lights grew brighter as it got closer. Lena tried to start the engine of her car, but just like an old man with tuberculosis, it only coughed a spurting sound and a cloud of black smoke before it was dead silent again.
Damn it... Don't die on me now you old fart...
Lena thought grimly as she tried to start her car again. The car rumbled unsteadily at first, then it blew a thicker cloud of black smoke as she revved the engine grumpily. Praying to every saint she can think of that her camaro, as badass as it looks, will run as fast as she needs it too.
The two police cruisers were just a few blocks away and some of the party goers outside finally noticed. When they started shouting the warning, pandemonium broke. Running boys and flailing girls and screeching tires filled the street.
And as it unfolded, she only had her sights on one particular girl.
The girl was confused at first, but the second realization hit her, fear and panic was spelled right in her face. Her so-called friends were long gone before she even managed to take a step away from the house.
Shit's about to go down, old fart... You better function now before she loses it...
Lena revved the engine again before pressing her foot hard on the accelerator, and she mumbled a bunch of thanks to all the saints she prayed to when her car finally started moving. And as she drove towards the girl, she felt a rumble that she knows for sure doesn't belong to the old fart of a car she owns.
Oh crap... She's losing it...

That's what her mom always say every time she head out of the door. Living in a neighborhood where the hopeless typically resides, it was a mantra her mom always tell her.
