A/N before I begin: I've written some fanfiction before, but it's never been SnK or on wattpad. I'm really excited to get to share this with you all, and I hope you enjoy! :) ~dsp221

Marco sat quietly on the unmade bed of his new room, his first day at South Maria University. He was studying to be a nurse, and his roommate, Armin Arlert, was studying neuroscience. Marco wouldn’t have been smart enough to study that, even if he wanted to. He liked helping people, and he didn’t like seeing people in pain. The two combined made for quite a good nurse, he supposed, which is why he chose the field.

As he sat revelling in the silence, he heard the lock on his door open, and a brown haired boy with bright green eyes ran in and jumped on the bed that Marco wasn’t occupying.

“Oh, man, this is going to be great!” the boy said, sprawling spread-eagle on the mattress.

“Are- are you Armin?” Marco asked warily. He had filled out the roommate form and all but he didn’t think that they would have assigned him someone like this. The boy turned, seeming to have just realized Marco was there, and laughed.

“Sorry, didn’t see you there,” he said, holding out his hand. “I’m Eren Jaeger. That’s Armin,” he added as Marco shook his hand, pointing his thumb behind him. A short, blond boy of small stature waved timidly from the doorway. Marco, with all the commotion Eren had made, hadn’t noticed Armin standing there, and immediately stood up, walking over to him.

“I’m Marco, Marco Bodt,” he said as they grasped hands, his freckled face lighting up with a smile. “I guess we’re roommates.”

“Yeah, I suppose we are.” Armin grinned. “Now Eren, move your butt. You have your own room.”

“But I’m bored and I already unpacked,” Eren whined, but still moved over so Armin could place his bags on his bed.

“Oh, is that bed fine for you?” Marco asked after realizing he never really gave Armin a choice on which bed to take. “I don’t mind switching if you want, I just liked the view from the window.”

“No, it’s okay,” Armin said, placing some of his clothes in a drawer. “I’m not a huge fan of heights anyway.” Being on the fourth floor of their building and right by a huge lake, the view was absolutely beautiful. Suddenly, Eren jumped up.

“I’m going to go find Mikasa,” he announced, and left the room. Armin laughed after Marco looked at the closed door strangely.

“He probably just wanted to make sure you weren’t going to tease me or anything,” Armin explained, hanging something up in the closet.

“Tease you?” Marco said incredulously. “Why would I tease you?”

“Because I’m short and, well, not very strong,” the shorter boy said. “I was picked on in school so Eren’s kind of protective of me.”

“So you guys were friends before coming here?” Marco asked, wanting to find out more about his new roommate. He loved meeting new people and learning things about them.

“Eren and Mikasa and I, we all grew up in Shiganshina together. Where are you from?”

“A city in southern Wall Maria,” the brunet replied, sitting down on his bed and leaning against the wall. “Probably not far from Shiganshina, actually. We were surrounded mostly by farmland, but we had good food and medical supplies, which probably drew people from less privileged towns in.” Armin nodded, closing his empty luggage bag and shoving it under his bed.
