***********************************The months pass, with the merciless training continuing. Today, the platoon was given a sign they found relieving.
"Snow!"
Miku stepped out of her tent, holding out her hand, catching tiny flakes of snow. "Finally, I've been waiting for this day to come."
Ichigo nodded, the two of them knew this was the day for a military tradition.
"We'll have our annual winter training." Ichigo announced to the soldiers. "It's loads of fun."
They wondered why it would be 'fun', there had to be a catch.
"Yes, you all would roll around the snow and just do whatever you did as children in wintertime." Miku's neutral look then turned into one of her sadistic stares.
"... Shirtless."
Their faces turned pale with shock at that very moment. If they didn't deal with extreme heat in the summer, they had to with the ruthless winter cold.
"Let's move!"
They arrived at the base of a mountain, a thick forest of pines in the distance. It was a picturesque landscape, perfect for a hot drink and someone to cuddle with, if only there wasn't a military exercise going on.
"It's -5° Celsius right now. Wonderful weather." Miku says.
The troops were envious of the two women, in full uniform and wearing thick scarves.
Goro led them in doing warmups-which didn't do anything to warm them, by the way.
Later, they ran in lines, it didn't take long before they began getting numb. Even with all the torture, smiles were wide on their red faces, they were enjoying.
Sitting at a distance was Miku and Ichigo, beholding the sight of shirtless, well-built men.
"Quite the show." Ichigo sighed. Despite their jobs, they are still women. It's not everyday a girl can be in their situation.
"I could watch this all day." Miku leaned on her elbows. "The pull-ups paid off, just look at those guns."
But her eyes were focusing on only one of them, Zorome. He had the best improvement out of all. From being a lanky, weak mess, he's on his way on being a disciplined, well-trained fighter.
Miku stands up. "Now we're on to the next event for the Winter Olympics: Wrestling. Zorome here will be our first competitor," She pauses. "... Against me."
"With all due respect ma'am but, isn't that a little unfair?" He asked.
"Are you scared?" Miku's eyebrows furrowed. "It looks like it."
"Uh, n-no ma'am."
"He's unleashed a monster." Ichigo whispered to Goro.
"God help him." He pushes his glasses up his face.
"You sure about this?" Miku tied her jacket on her waist. "You can back out anytime."
"I can do it."
Ichigo drew a large circle around them with a stick. "Once you're out this ring, you lose."
Miku lunged towards him, but he quickly moved out of the way.
"Is there no countdown or something?" He asked.
"There's no need for that in a real battle, wake up!"
She put all her weight on him, making him stumble and fall. Pinning him down, he landed on his bare back, completely exposed to the freezing white snow.
"It's not too late to call it quits." She smirks.
"I... won't give up." Zorome shifted, rolling over multiple times before she ended up being beneath him.
Their eyes met, locked in a deep gaze. There was only less than an inch between their faces, practically breathing the same air. Her prideful and ferocious expression melted off, turning into one of shock. His confident, half-eyed stare declared his new-found dominance.
"I guess I win." Zorome looked over Miku's shoulder, they both crossed the line, but since he was on top of her, she touched it first.
She wanted to say something, but she didn't know what.
He got up, lending his hand for her. "You did great ma'am."
"No one asked you." She gets up on her own to walk past him, scoffing. Sitting on her chair, she put on her jacket as she grumbled in frustration.
"Hey, that was adorable." Ichigo quipped.
"How?"
"Did you only do that to take a closer look at him?"
"Pffft, shut up! It's not like I li-"
Miku was cut off after a clump of snow hit her on the shoulder.
"Alright, who did that?!" She shouts.
They froze in fear, before pointing their fingers towards Zorome, who was trying to hide.
"I'm s-sorry! I didn't mean t-"
She interrupted his pleads with a snowball to the face.
They began hurling the cold stuff at each other, engaging in a full-on snowball fight. Laughs and shouts of joy echoed through the snowy land. It was a nostalgic experience, their childhood winter days spent just like this, except for the fact that they were fully clothed.
Zorome stopped in his tracks when he saw her, against the forested backdrop. She began laughing whilst hitting everybody, making him see her rare smile for the first time, with the falling snow softening her glare. A different warmth came washing down his body, which he felt even with the subzero temperatures.

There was a picture of shirtless South Korean soldiers on their actual winter training that I would've uploaded, but my stupid Internet was too slow. So here's the link to an article about it: https://amp.businessinsider.com/south-korean-special-forces-train-in-snow-2015-1
