"Come on Dean, it'll be fun!" Dean pulled the hood of his sweatshirt over his head, trying to block out his best friend's voice. "You were the one who wanted us to duet, remember?"
"Yeah, but I figured it'd just be a harmony thing, not some girly back and forth shit!" Their choral instructor had instructed them to learn and perform a song for their school's Christmas concert and naturally Dean had stood next to Cas practically before she had begun speaking. She agreed to let them work on it together because they apparently blended more beautifully than any of her past students. Dean was totally fine with that when they sang classical stuff, but this was just ridiculous. "Neither of us even know how to play the warmups."
The shorter boy crossed his arms. "You just spent an hour teaching me the lyrics to every song you own. I think that's enough warmup."
"Yeah, but that's not relevant!"
"Deeeeean," Cas whined, leaning over the back of the couch and pulling the hood off Dean's head. He tried in vain to get it back on, for his friend hadn't let go. "You promised I could pick the song, and I have chosen one I enjoy. Is that a problem?" He looked up at Cas and was slightly irritated seeing the puppy dog look which, combined with his bright blue eyes and childish pout, Dean was never able to resist. Fuck my life, he thought, I can't believe I'm actually doing this.
Dean rolled his eyes. "Okay, fine. But you're never picking the song again, capiche?" He shot Cas a wink to let him know he wasn't completely serious.
"Yeah, I capiche." It was times like this that Dean was reminded exactly why Castiel was his best friend. The way he messed up everyday expressions was just too damn endearing. That was probably a fairly large contributor to the way his feelings towards Cas had grown much stronger. He grinned and shook his head, attempting to stand up as best he could with Cas still holding his hood hostage. Cas only let go when Dean jokingly threatened to pour the contents of his mug on his hand.
"Man, Jo is never gonna let me live this down," he said, walking over to his computer and pulling up YouTube. "Cas, you know the words, right?"
His best friend shot him a faintly exasperated look. "No Dean, I merely wanted to choose a song that I had absolutely no idea how to sing." Dean nearly choked on his hot chocolate at Cas' tone.
"Dude, that was the most ridiculous sarcasm I've ever heard," he laughed. "Even from you!" Cas bowed and even pretended to curtsy, lifting the sides of his coat like one would a skirt. "And Cas, it may be freezing outside, but it's pretty warm in here. Wanna take that thing off?"
This time it was Cas' turn to wink as he pulled his coat off and tossed it on the couch, and Dean felt like the heat in the room was completely generated by the blush in his cheeks. "Better?" he asked with a smirk.
"Yeah," Dean said, his voice coming out a little higher than expected, but he quickly coughed to disguise it. "Yeah. You were making me hot just looking at you." Eyes widening, he turned away quickly and prayed Cas didn't catch the accidental innuendo. "Let's just get this over with." He pressed play and the music began.
Cas' eyes lit up at the first note, and Dean couldn't help smiling at how happy his friend looked. It was pretty adorable, actually.
"I really can't stay," Cas began, his tenor voice being a little on the lower side. Dean's was a little bit higher, so they complemented each other well.
"But baby, it's cold outside." Dean pouted after his line, which earned a smile from Cas.
"I've got to go away."
"But baby, it's cold outside."
