Professor Layton and the Sword of Spirits

Chapter 1

October 19th 1950

Professor Hershel Layton was sitting at his desk enjoying some tea after a tiring day of teaching at the university. The professor was reading over the case of the "Last Spectre". As he closed the book he jumped when Luke Triton and Emilie (Emmy) Altava came in. "You have a few letters here professor!" Luke stated "Most of them are bills but there's one that has a seal like yours but it has a fedora on it.  Confused, Hershel asked Emmy to give him the letter. The letter read:

Dear Professor H. Layton

It has come to my attention that an old friend of yours, one by the name of Jean Descole has found the lost temple of Demostrane witch contains the sword of spirits.

If Descole obtains the power of the sword he will be able to trick anyone in the known world.

After he has wielded the sword for 24 hours he will be taken over by the sword and he will go on a murderous rampage killing anyone in sight and claiming his or her spirit for himself.

I don't know every detail so I cannot tell you everything, I am deeply sorry about that.

I have already informed Inspector Chelmey and Barton about this and I ask you to meet with us at his office on October 20th 1950 at 12:00 pm, if this letter arrives on the 20th or after come the day after you get this letter at 12:00

If you don't come then Descole will kill thousands and take over the world within a matter of days, on that note I expect to see you soon.

Everyone except the professor had a shocked expression on their face. "You have a brother?!" Luke said confused, "And why didn't you tell us?!" Emmy added. "I never expected him to talk to me again after we parted ways. He was sent to jail a few years back for a crime he didn't commit, in fact it was the inspector was the one who arrested him, I'm surprised they're even talking to each other."  "What did he even do?" Emmy asked. "He was working on a case and he found a lead on it but when he arrived to the flat he found a dead body. When he was about to call Scotland Yard but police cars swarmed the building and he was framed for the murder. He's been in prison ever since, it seems he's been let out."  "That's awful!  Not the getting freed."  Luke said.  "Yes, yes it is."  Hershel said in an quiet voice, he sounded upset in some way.

After that discussion Hershel, Luke and Emmy went out for a walk to get some fresh air.  While they where out Hershel decided to buy Luke and Emmy lunch, on their way Hershel is looking around the streets of London when he sees a man with a black trench coat, a black fedora with a red stripe around the hat and he noticed his skin was a bit of a darker white and he noticed he also had brownish-blackish hair under the fedora.  It was almost like an older version of his older brother, he decided to think it was a coincidence and went inside the café with Luke and Emmy.

October 20th 1950

The day before Hershel , Luke and Emmy stayed out for the entire day and everyone was exhausted when they got back to Hershel's flat so Hershel let them stay the night.  When Luke woke up he went to the living room to find that Professor Layton and Emmy had already got dressed and were at the table Emmy was drinking some coffee and Layton was enjoying a cup of tea.  "Good morning professor and good morning Emmy."  Luke said in a tired voice.  "It's almost ten Luke, could you please get dressed.  Remember, a gentleman must always be prepared."  Hershel said.  "Right professor!" Luke responded.  After a while Luke came out all dressed.  It was 10:30 so the group had some time to kill so they all went out to a local restaurant for brunch when they were finished Layton paid and when they all got out it was 11:30, they went to the nearest bus stop and when they got to Scotland Yard it was 11:48.  They made their way to the office and when they opens the door they were greeted by Inspector Chelmey, Barton and the man the professor had seen the day before.

"Ah hello brother!" Norval says excitedly.  "Hello Norval, it's very good to see you again!"  Hershel said just as exited to see him.  Norval looks over to Luke and Emmy and says to Hershel "Hershel... do you have a wife and child?"  "Oh havens no, this is Emmy Altava and Luke Triton,  they are my closest friends." Hershel said in a shocked tone.  Norval spoke up and said: "Well now that you're here I would like to discuss the matter of Descole.  As you know Descole is someone obsessed with ancient sources of power such as the sword of spirits.  We need to get more information about the task at hand and put a stop to Descole's plan."  "And in the letter you stated that the sword was being held in the lost temple of Demostrate?" Luke said.  "Yes Mr. Triton, now I still don't know where the temple is, and neither does Descole, he has a sort of a map to the temple but it's all written in code and Descole is attempting to find out what it means.  If we play our cards right we might be able to stop Descole's plot."  Norval looks at his watch and gets up.  "Well It's late and we must all get back to our lives, on that note thank you for letting me use your office inspector and thank you all for coming." 

 Before everyone left Hershel approached Norval and they started to talk.  "Norval, I would like to ask if you could join Emmy, Luke and I for supper tonight and stay with me for a while until you get back on your feet."  Hershel said.  "Why of course I'll join my brother and his friends for supper and of course I'll stay with you for a while!"  Norval responded.  After this everyone went out for supper, Luke went home for the night and after Emmy and Norval stayed the night at Hershel's Flat and awaited the long adventure ahead of them.
