Dahae's POV
"Can I help?" Boyoung asked innocently, holding onto my hand tightly.
"No, Boyoung." I replied.
"Then why am I going?" She asked. She has been asking me a million questions ever since we left and it's getting on my nerves at this point.
I inhaled sharply, trying to calm myself down. After a long pause, I finally spoke. "Because I said so."
"But-"
"We're here." I pulled her inside the alley, past the trashcans and flung open the metal door. As we entered, Boyoungs eyes wandered around the familiar girls locker room.
Boyoung came here once before, for the same reason. Around two months ago when I first started this part time job to gain extra money other than the money sent from my parents back in my home town.
An employee was absent so I was asked to take his place and had to bring Boyoung along. Same thing as what is happening right now.
I slipped out of my outfit and into my uniform as Boyoung entered the kitchen. I trailed behind her and tied the knot of my apron behind my back.
"Hey there! Long time no see Boyoungie!" Joohyun crouched down to meet Boyoungs short height. "Remember me?"
Boyoung brought her tiny fist to her chin and nodded shyly before skidding away behind me. Joohyun chuckled at her cuteness.
Boyoung's chubby cheeks turned a slight shade of pink as she hid her face behind my back, gripping onto my uniform.
Awe! Joohyun thought.
"Glad you could come, Dahae." Joohyun smiled and stood up straight. "The manager was about to explode from stress. Go get started now. Oh, and Boyoung, you can watch how we do things here or sit on that seat, quietly, okay?"
Boyoung nodded and made her way to the chefs to observe the process of cooking.
Boyoung already knows how to cook. I raised her.
"Table number 17! Joohyun!"
Joohyun grabbed a tray of steak and side dishes before exiting the kitchen.
"Table number 39! Dahae!"
After making several trips from upstairs to downstairs, dropping off orders and taking them, cleaning tables, and welcoming more customers, I sat down on one of the tall stools in the kitchen, catching my breath.
I glance at the clock over the metal door. 9:14 pm.
Just one more hour and I'm done. Keep it together, Dahae.
"Dahae, get your butt back to work!" The manager shouted from one of the chef's stalls. This girl needs more training.
I curse under my breathe and reluctantly make my way to the door, giving one last glance at Boyoung who was learning how to professionally make soup from one of the chefs.
Joohyun walks inside the kitchen, breathing heavily.
"Dahae- more customers- welcome...them..." She managed to say between her breathes before plopping down on the stool.
I push open the door and immediately looked at the entrance to spot the new customers. A family of four. A mother, a father, and two sons.
As soon as I was about to walk over to them, I recognized one of the boys.
Shit. Shit. Shit. Shit. Shit. Shit. Shit. Shit.
Gasping lowly, I turn on my heel and go in the kitchen, planting my back against the cold, metal door.
