Elena clutched her purse tightly as she stepped out of the Range Rover. The weight of the moment pressed down on her chest, but she tried to mask it with the grace she had cultivated over years of public life. Brock, one of Harry's royal protection officers, held the car door open for her as she slid out, her heels clicking softly against the stone of the palace courtyard.

The air was crisp, a subtle reminder that autumn was creeping in. But none of that mattered—her thoughts were far too consumed with the upcoming conversation, the confrontation she had known was inevitable, and the uncertainty of her future.

With a deep breath, Elena walked around the car, her eyes momentarily meeting Brock's as he stood by, ever watchful. She could feel the familiar flutter of nerves stirring inside her, but she tamped it down, pulling her shoulders back. The moment she had spent so long avoiding was here.

Harry stood waiting for her, his posture relaxed, though his eyes betrayed a touch of concern. The warmth of his smile, even under the circumstances, was a small comfort.

"No need to be nervous, Ellie," Harry said, his voice light, as he reached out to take her hand.

Elena rolled her eyes.

"Easy for you to say, Harry," she said with a small, frustrated sigh, her voice tinged with the stress that had been building for days. "You're not the one whose life can be ruined by this."

Harry's face softened, and he squeezed her hand. "Let's go in. We're in this together, Ellie."

Elena nodded, her heart pounding as they walked side by side towards the grand entrance of the palace. She had always known this day would come, but now that it had, it was far more daunting than she had anticipated. What was supposed to be a private decision, a choice made between two people, was now an international headline. The marriage she didn't even remember being a part of, the one that had been sealed in secrecy, was now about to be confronted by Harry's father—Charles, the Prince of Wales.

What neither of them knew, however, was that a paparazzo had snuck into the palace grounds just moments before, capturing a photograph of them entering together. Within minutes, the photo would be all over social media, igniting a firestorm of speculation and gossip.

Inside the palace, the tension thickened. Harry and Elena were led into a formal sitting room, where Charles was already seated, looking up from a piece of correspondence. His usual composure was evident, but there was a certain unease in his eyes as he looked between the two of them.

"Harry!" Charles exclaimed, beaming as his son entered. "What a pleasant surprise!" His gaze flicked over to Elena, and the smile quickly faded into something more measured. "So, it's true?"
