Rollan P.O.V

I have always pretended that I didn't care about my father at all for as long as I can remember. Well it is true that I don't care about my father. But I always wanted a father figure in my life.

Every year on my birthday since my dad left, I would wish for a father figure when blowing out the candles. Someone that could support me and someone I could always trust.

Every single wish I made was to have a father figure. Or maybe another father which would never cheat on my mother or leave me without a second thought.

After my dad left I realised I had to support my mum. So for the next few years I did everything I could to support other people without realising I needed support myself.

But a very small part of me wanted to have my dad back and hug him. Feel his scratchy beard tickle me one last time. I hated that small part of me and tried to hide it as much as I could.

There was only one good memory that included his father. I was four years old at the time and my mother had just gotten her new job.

It was five in the morning when my dad shook me awake and told me to follow me outside. I was very confused at the time but I still followed him.

It had rained the night before and it was still freezing outside. I shivered before my dad pulled me over to a dry bench to sit on.

"The reason I took you out here so early is because it rained last night Rollan." my father said while pulling me into a tight embrace.

"Whats so important about the rain last night?" I asked confused.
"Because now we can smell the petrichor son. I love the smell of the damp earth around us." he said while breathing deeply.

I took a deep breath in and smelled something very odd but nice. I couldn't believe I had never smelled it before. I really liked the smell of it.

We spent the next hour there just breathing in the smell of the petrichor. I loved that memory so much it hurts and I wish I could do it one more time with him.

After my dad left I would still go out after it rained and smell the petrichor. It always hurt though and I would usually just end up going back inside after a few minutes.

But after I became a hero of Erdas I never went back to smell the petrichor. I never wished for another father figure.

It wasn't because I was too busy at staying alive or training. It was because I met Tarik.

After I became a Hero of Erdas Tarik became a father for me. He was always there for me and he cared for me like a father.

And one of the things I liked best about him?

He smelled like petrichor.

Just a small little one-shot focusing on Rollans father problems. I really think this turned out well and i'm proud of it. If people could write some constructive criticism down below I would really like that. I really hope everyone enjoyed that. Have a great day everyone! :)
