So this all started with a dream, I WANTED TO GO TO PRIVATE SCHOOL! I wanted to start and end high school somewhere different with nobody I knew. Upon looking up the requirements to get into this school, I had to take Algebra 1 in middle school. So second semester of my 8th grade, I switched into Algebra 1.
My teacher gave us a new seating chart for the semester and I was sat next to the most popular guy in the school, Derek Kingsley. What a fantastic day! That's sarcasm because I was someone who was not impressed by anyone with a popularity sign attached to their name.
Being able to remember the exact words we said to each other upon the first time meeting is insane, but I do remember some parts. I remember how our friendship started blossoming and how we were trouble for our teacher in that class. I also remembered thinking about how real and not fake he was. It was a surprise and I was happy about it.
I also remember how he took a picture of my homework for snapchat that said something along the lines with, "I WANT TO DIE." When I looked over he originally captioned the picture with, "A girl in my class's paper." Then deleted it and wrote, "Someone's paper next to me in math class." I was intrigued but not bothered by this.
I also remember him pointing out to me where his mom parks everyday for parent pickup and how jealous I was of him for getting picked up when I had to ride the bus.
Then the last day of school rolled around, it was goodbye I was dreading. I read and I know what happens in high school. Especially with his glorified status of being the most popular guy in school... And then he said this. "You should give me your number so we can talk over the summer."
I know, take a breath. I was shocked too. Obviously I said yes and then we parted our ways for the summer.
Then summer came about and I became the weirdest, most stalker-like person on the planet. In those moments I texted him, I felt good though. Not weird, happy. He made me happy even though he continuously dodged my calls and my questions about hanging out. Then the strangest thing happened, I started high school.
Life got flipped upside down my freshman year. Tell me something, isn't junior year supposed to your hardest year, well not for this girl. Freshman year became my "blocked out and forgotten about year." All I remember is how my best friend and I talked about him everyday and how he had been ignoring me and not wanting to talk to me.
We had a class together, Honors Physical/Earth Science. Everyday, I caught him looking at me. I never thought it was because he thought I was weird, I made up these stupid situations in my head about how he secretly liked me. No, what I had was a vivid imagination with a want for someone I'll never be with.
The truth is: I wanted someone I couldn't have and I was determined to not believe that. It was a treasure hunt and I was determined to find the gold. That's how we met and how a friendship turned into a one-sided crush.
