"is this a normal thing for you? ice cream every day?" he asked as she walked into the ice cream parlor.

"i just moved here, and i decided to check out this place because it was nearby." she giggled. "i never planned on coming every day, but the ice cream is so good."

"are you sure it's the ice cream you're coming back for?"

"what are you implying?" she smirked, slowly stepping towards the counter.

"what can i get for you today?" he changed the subject with a grin.

"cookie dough, please."

"coming right up."

she looked around the parlor, falling more in love with the minimalistic pieces of art and neon signs that displayed positive messages.

"so do you live here or something?" she leaned on the counter, still capturing details from the beautifully styled parlor.

"what do you mean?" he grunted, struggling at scooping enough ice cream out of the container.

"you've been here for the past three days at three different times."

"ah, well my dad owns this place, but he's barely ever around. it started with me just helping him do stocks, but he slowly drifted away from this place, leaving me with all of the work. not many people show up anyways, so it's not a huge amount of work for me to do." he handed her the cone of cookie dough ice cream. "i don't blame him, though. it's been really hard since we moved from china. he's been working himself pretty harshly with multiple jobs, the least i can do is scoop a little ice cream."

"oh, i didn't mean to bring up anything too personal, i'm sorry." the girl took the ice cream from his hand. "here, how about this: i'll buy you an ice cream and we can meet up later?"

"no thanks." he chuckled. when he saw her face turn from hopeful to embarrassed, he quickly changed his tone. "no- i meant about the ice cream part."

"you work at an ice cream parlor and you don't like ice cream?" she sent him a questioning look.

"i'm lactose intolerant." he shrugged. "but i'm down for the meeting up later part."

"alright, cool. what's your number?" she handed him her phone so that he could type in his digits.

when he gave her the phone back, she handed him money to pay for the ice cream.

"have a good day." he smiled, watching her as she left.

she peered at her phone, noticing the newly created contact entitled 'renjun🦋'.
