The End

Oh no.

Not Madeleine. She's only five, this can't be happening.

No no no no-

"Parcee!"

I darted over to her, hoping I wouldn't see what I imagined.

Well, I didn't. I saw something worse.

Her face was smeared with blood from a fatal gash on her forehead. Her hazel hair was stained with bug juice and blood, tears were streaming down her screaming face, and her eyes were red from crying and traumatization.

She crashed into my open arms, nearly ripping my shirt. If she dies-

"I don't wanna go!"

Blank. It all went blank.

The war raged on around us; as if one of Arlene's force fields was protecting us. Madeleine was going to see Arlene again soon.

"Madeleine, Madeleine listen to me." She looked up at me, terrified out of her mind.

"My head hurts..." I nodded, a tear escaping my eye.

"I know, I know, but, it's okay, it won't soon," I murmured, hugging her a bit. "It'll all be over soon."

I watched helplessly as the blood and life drained from her. Despite my powers, there was nothing I could do.

No one attacked us. It was like they knew. They knew what we know.

I looked up to see if I could locate Izac. He was on the other side of the battle, not even bothering to look over at us. Maybe he knew. Maybe he was scared.

"Parcee, I feel funny," Madeleine whimpered, touching the blood on her cheek.

"I know, I know, but don't worry okay?" I was getting frantic. This couldn't be happening.

"Parcee?"

"Yes?"

"Can I tell you something?" Her eyes were closed now. She was so tired.

"You're the best big brother ever."

My heart nearly stopped. She called me her brother.

I grinned at her, burying my face in my arm, tears rushing down my cheeks.

This kid-

All of a sudden, I heard her breath go sharp.

"Tell my mom-" she paused, drawing a breath "that I'll be late for lunch."

And with that, her wise lavender eyes closed for the last time.

I carefully placed her body on the ground. I looked up, barely containing my tears. Izac was standing right in front of me. He was crying too.

"She's-" I nodded.

I stood up and stood by his side. Enemies were starting to charge again.

"We're the only two left."

He nodded, solemn. We looked at each other, then charged like we've never done before.

The overgrown bugs crumbled under our powers. We were nearing Zamira's peak strength. Insane.

I kept looking over at Izac, just making sure that he was still standing. I could tell he was doing the same for me.
