A tall, lanky man stepped into the dim light. He had on a long, white lab coat and salt and pepper hair. His grin was twisted and his back hunched. I frowned, feeling a mixture of fear, anger and disbelief.
"What do you want with us?" Madeleine screamed at the strange man, catching him off guard.
"Oh, I remember you, yes, yes indeed." He muttered, shaking his finger at her. He walked towards her and all I could do was fight my bounds.
"You were always the fighter." He scowled as if he was remembering something painful.
"I'm not surprised you don't remember me. I took your memories after all," the man said, pacing away from Madeleine and in front of all of us.
"As the notes informed, you are super humans," he explained, folding his arms across his back.
"To subject I1, I gave flame," he gazed into Izac's terrified eyes.
"To A1, I gave force fields," he searched Arlene's eyes carefully for a non existent memory.
"To P1, I gave strength and power drainage," he stared into my eyes and sadly, I was unable to not stare back into his.
"And to little M1, I gave telekinesis," he smiled crazily at Madeleine, who was scowling at the dastardly-sounding man.
Power drainage.
The chairs we were sitting on were run on electricity; that's why we couldn't get out of them. Apparently I can drain power. You see where I'm going with this?
I closed my eyes and concentrated on the source of power. With a simple unsteady breath, the chairs short circuited and fizzled out.
"What is the meaning of this?" The scientist bellowed, looking around in angry disbelief.
I smirked as we broke through the chairs and stood up to confront this delusional man.
I felt power surging through my veins. It felt electric.
I can use the power I take.
Blue bolts danced harmlessly (to me, they were deadly to others) off my fingertips.
Izac's hands were engulfed in flames that, I'm guessing, he could throw.
Arlene had put up force fields at her forearms, getting ready to use them for a knock-back attack. Nice.
Madeleine stood tall, trying to look as confident and powerful as a 5 year old could. She was surprisingly menacing in her pink nightgown.
Madeleine stepped forward, lifting her arm into the air to suspend this 'doctor' by his neck.
I stepped forwards and touched his arm, stealing his strength. His body's life left him and transferred to mine. Now, I had the strength of a grown man and electricity manipulation powers. Sweet.
We left the body there and explored the strange (and poorly designed) building. We found computer screens that watched the forest, the exact location where we woke up. We found files with our names on them and one that was labeled 'End of Humanity'. What a mood-lifter.
Knowing that we couldn't stay, we grabbed as many files as we could and bolted. Time to figure out what we could do. We walked around a little more and found some phones to take. Hopefully no one'll miss them.
After unlocking the phone, I got online and got to the daily news site of our town. The headline was unsettling.
Group of four, missing, presumed dead.
Followed by four recent photographs.
Photographs of us.
"You guys might want to see this," I called them over warily. They peered over my shoulder, getting a good look at the article.
"They think we're dead." Izac whispered, his voice shaking a little. I understood why; this was bad. Not failed a math test bad, but people don't know I still exist bad.
Madeleine burst into tears.
She's so confident, I forgot she was still a little kid. This was worse for her; she can't take care of herself.
Arlene tried comforting her and did manage to calm her down by promising to buy her some chocolate later. She's still little; that stuff'll work on her.
"We should get out of here. I'm sure we'll find somewhere to stay, at least for tonight." I proposed, shoving the phone in my pocket. We found an entrance to a secluded room in the facility to sleep in.
We'd figure it all out later.
Humanity can wait to be saved, right?
