The One and Only

Feathery Feeling/ Third Person Pov

Sophie had missed the feathery feeling more than she cared to admit. She looked up and couldn't help but smile at the glittering gates of Everglen. She sighed waiting for one of the Vackers to come and get the shock of their lives. She remembered when she gave them the first shock of their lives as clear as day.

Flashback

It was a couple of months after she realized she needed to get out and in those few months she defeated the Neverseen with the power of how much she wanted to leave. It was weird for hr. Finally making a selfish decision. Everyone was at Everglen for supper. Fitz was extremely happy because him and Sophie had just told each other their last secrets and both of theirs had been that they liked each other and they had shared their first kiss. The thing was though that Sophie hadn't spoken the whole time and they all knew something was up. They were all hoping her mind wasn't breaking.

"I'm leaving." She said suddenly. Everyone's conversation stopped immediately.

"What do you mean?" Linh asked.

Sophie took a deep breath. "I mean I'm leaving. I can't stay here anymore. I need to get out. I'm leaving for the human world. I've already got it all planned out and I'm going to a University. I'm going to be a doctor." She said firmly.

"Sophie, you can't leave." Fitz said frantically. She wouldn't look at him.

"I agree. Sophie, you're being irradical." Alden told her. She stood up so suddenly that her chair fell over.

"I am not!" She shouted slamming her hands down on the table. "I'm doing something for myself for once and you can't stop me! I can't be here anymore! There's sooooo much pressure and I can't take it anymore! I don't want to be the Moonlark! I want to be normal!"

Everyone was taken aback by her outburst. She had nor raised her voice like that. She had always seemed content with her lifestyle. Maybe that was why they lost her.

"I love you all. But I need to start taking care of myself and..." She looked around the room. "I'm just so pressured here. I feel like I'm trapped and I can't get out. And don't get me wrong I love you guys and I love being here with you guys. But there's pressure that you don't even realize you're putting on me." She looked at Grady and Edaline. "Being like Jolie." She turned to Alden and Della. "Living up to your expectations of the girl you were looking for." She stopped at Dex, Biana, Fitz, Keefe, Tam, Linh, and Marella. "Being there whenever you need me no matter what I'm going through. Forgiving you when I get hurt over and over and over again. Being the perfect friend. Being the Moonlark. Not cracking under bullying." They all looked like they wanted to say something but Sophie held up her hands. "And to tell you the truth you guys were the only reason why I fought off the guilt for a little bit. I knew that I couldn't crack because then the Neverseen would win. Selfless Sophie once again." She chuckled emotionlessly. "But then things got worse it took a lot of my energy but I figured out a way to get rid of the cracking. I figured out with math that I had about 4 months till my mind book completely with the level of guilt coming at me. I knew I had to leave soon so I put all my effort into defeating them so that when I left I wouldn't have to worry about you guys. And tomorrow marks four months." She said grimly. "I've already talked to the council and Black Swan. They don't like it but they've both agreed. They turned my birth fund into human money yesterday. I'm sorry I waited so long to tell you."

She looked at Sandor. "Watch over them for me."

"With all due respect Miss Foster but I will not hesitate to pin you down if you even think about leaving." He told her sternly.

"It's either this or my mind breaks." She said flatly. "And I'm prepared to use my ability." She told him and nobody doubted it for a second.

"I really do love you guys." She said. She then turned to Fitz.

"I'm sorry." She transmitted and he looked away. He was heartbroken.

She gulped and turned back to her family. "I'm going to get my stuff. I'll be gone in a few moments." She said still not believing it. She turned towards the stairs and put a hand on the railing. "Feel free to tell anyone, though, the council should be making an announcement soon." She called over her shoulder and walked up the stairs. How many more families will I have to leave... She thought.

Everyone was still in shock until a boom of thunder snapped them out of it. She had teleported from her window. Edaline, Biana, and Linh all burst into tears. Grady smashed the glass he was holding and Fitz put his head in his hands. The rest couldn't do anything but sit there and stare. What was suppose to be a fun day of celebration turned into the worst day of all of their lives.

Grady and Edaline had lost two daughters now. Alden and Della had lost the child they had loved ever since they met her. Dex had lost his best friend. Biana had lost her first true friend. Keefe had lost the only person who really truly got him. Tam and Linh had lost the first person to not ever care they were twins or that they were both too powerful for their own good. Marella had lost the only person to look past what was on the surface and cared about her for her. Sandor had lost his favorite charge and basically his own daughter. And Fitz. Fitz had lost his cognate, the best person in his life, and the girl he liked. All in one day.

Flashback over

I wonder what they all look like now? Will they recognize me? How will they react? Are any of them married? What had I missed? I hope Iggy is ok. She thought. Footsteps caught her attention and she saw the gates open.

She looked up to see a handsome young man with her favorite color for his eye color. He had dark dark brown wavy hair. He was a bit taller than she remembered and he had broader shoulders. He still had the same twinkle in his eyes and the same laugh lines, though.

The twinkle went out of his eyes as soon as he saw her. He blinked. Once. Twice. Then he rubbed his eyes. His dark eyebrows scrunching together.

"Sophie?" He whispered.
