Three weeks.
It had been three weeks since Y/n was kidnapped from the SPK building and she had hated every moment of it.
Everything was how it was before, except Mello paid more attention to her.
She lay her head on Matt's chest, falling asleep almost instantly. She had been sleep deprived since arrival, and while most of the group blamed the quick change of time zones, and she would never admit it to herself, but deep down she knew it was because of Mello.
The blonde himself entered the room, a spark of anger flashing in his eyes before he spoke.
"Matt, what the hell are you doing?" He hissed.
The said male blinked, "She was tired. She barely sleeps here, and she even wants me to stand by the door when she has to is the bathroom. Mello, this isn't just jet lag, something happened." The redhead spoke, concerned for his friends well being.
The blonde nodded slowly, letting the words sink in.
"What do you think it could be?"
Matt looked at him with a raised eyebrow.
"Remember Wammy's when she was younger? She was always so outgoing. Then when we left you treated her horribly. She's selectively mute, she only talks when she needs to, or with me." Mello glared for a moment, before nodding.
"I did lash out at her specifically a lot, but would that result in all of this? It's a lot more than being just selectively mute, I don't think she can stomach anything but water. When she was younger stress made her physically sick, remember? And anxiety could be linked to both of those issues." Mello added, taking a bite of his chocolate.
The redhead nodded, petting the girls hair.
She stirred, opening her eyes.
As soon as she caught sight of Mello, she was wide awake.
It was the worst feeling, being so tired and moving so quickly.
She stared wide eyed at the blonde from the corner she had backed up into, looking away for only a moment when she felt weight shifting on the matress.
Matt picked her up, and moved to Mello.
She froze up, glancing between Matt and Mello as flashes of the past came back to her in quick, lucid bursts of emotion.
"What's got you so stressed Mells? You know it's a shit idea to keep that bottled up right?"
"Can't you give me a moment's peace?! If you don't shut the hell up then I'll just kick your ass to the streets!"
"Sorry, damn. Don't ask to talk to me about jack shit then."
"Like I'd want to hear your voice anyways..."
A tear slipped down her right cheek at the memory of the harsh words.
Her hand went to her side, feeling the marred skin underneath before bunching the fabric in her hands.
Pain consumed the young girls entire being.
She wrapped her arms loosely around Matt, every bump in the road sending yet another shock of pain through her body.
She blacked out, waking up on her twin sized mattress in the corner of her small, bare room.
"You're up. I thought you were going to die."
She nodded, agreeing with the blonde who had caused the damage to her.
"Did I hurt you?" He asked.
She was tempted to roll her eyes, but instead nodded.
"Then stay out of my way and it won't happen again."
Her tears ceased.
She was more scared than she had ever been before, because they weren't just stressed kids anymore.
They were dangerous people.
And nothing could take the danger from them.
They were brilliant kids, and that scared people.
That scared her.
