Chapter Two: Where It All Began
It had only been a few months since I’d moved to Los Angeles when the calls started rolling in about casting me in parts. I was surprised, but completely flattered. They all wanted me. My name spread throughout Hollywood like wildfire. Headlines and magazine covers alike all screamed something about Scarlett Belvedere.
The morning of July 13th dawned like any other. The sun peeked through my curtains and shined on my face, waking me up from a wonderful dream. I squinted at the clock to see what time it was, sighed, and then rolled out of bed. I jumped in the shower, trying to wake myself up. I had what was sure to be a long day ahead of me. After I got out of the shower, I put my hair up in a bun, so that it would be curly when I took it down later. I threw on my lavender bathrobe and padded to the kitchen, where I immediately made myself a cup of coffee. Coffee in hand, I sat down at my kitchen table and opened up the magazine that was on top of a large pile of them.
I flipped through, stopping because I caught sight of my own face. There was a page listing a bunch of facts about me, including things such as my birthdate (January 13), my favorite color (lavender), my favorite food (pasta), and my height (5’2”). The very last bullet read favorite band. Next to it was written “Fall Out Boy. I’ve been a fan of theirs since I was in middle school. Plus Patrick Stump is the cutest thing ever.” I remembered that interview well. The interviewer had asked if we’d ever met, and I had laughed and said that I’d “probably die if I ever did.” I giggled, remembering the moment.
I decided to get dressed, so I put on a light blue dress. I put on a touch of eyeliner and mascara, and looked at the clock. Very soon I would be filming a segment with Ellen Degeneres. I still couldn’t believe that Ellen had invited me onto her show. I had grown up watching her on tv. I picked up my phone from my nightstand and then grabbed my keys. I walked outside and smiled at my light turquoise VW convertible. It had always been my dream car and I finally had the money to actually buy one.
When I arrived at the studio, I was led to my dressing room. On the walk there, I looked around at all the pictures hanging in the hallways and thought about how many celebrities had been here. I was now one of them.
Ellen came into my dressing room shortly after I got there to personally introduce herself and to welcome me. Before I knew it, I was waiting backstage for Ellen to call my name.
“And here with us today is Scarlett Belvedere!” Ellen announced. The crowd roared as I walked onto the stage, smiling and waving at everyone. This was truly a spectacular thing, to be loved by the crowd. Ellen and I hugged and then we both sat down.
“So, if you haven't already seen the name Scarlett Belvedere everywhere already, you’re about to. She is one of the most talented actresses I’ve seen in awhile and one of the nicest people I’ve ever met,” Ellen said to the audience. “And the list of new movies she’s in is one that is ever growing.”
I beamed and she went on to give the audience a preview of the new movie I was in.
“So tell me, what do you think is the best part of being famous?” Ellen asked me.
“Well I don’t really see myself as famous, I mean I’m just a small town girl from New Jersey who is still a kid at heart,” I told her. “But the best part of being here in Hollywood is the fact that I’m getting to do what I love. Acting has always been my passion, ever since I was little, and the little girl inside of me is ecstatic and is hamming it up in front of the cameras.”
“You’re really living out your dream. Now, you’ve done live theater in the past right?”
I nodded.
