|443|Ricky watched out the window as his lover drive off in the overly expensive Aston Martin. His cellphone ringing made him come back to a hopeful reality. He sighed when he saw it was his mother. Obviously not in the mood to talk, he answered anyways because he just didn't want to seem rude.
"Hi Momma."
"Richard, what's going on? I've left you two messages this week."
Ricky looked around his apartment, trying to find some form of excuse to explain his absence. Finding nothing, he stammered and stuttered over his sentences.
"I uh, ugh I. I got a little distracted."
"It's fine honey, sorry I missed your graduation. I heard it was lovely. And you're new Beau. Ray told me all about him, sounds like quite the young man. Even though I would've preferred to have heard it from you." His mother replied.
Tears started forming in his eyes as recounts from the incident that happened mere minutes ago flashed behind his eyes. His heavy breathing and gulping worried the slightly older lady on the other side.
"Ricky? Are you okay? What's wrong?"
He recollected himself before answering.
"Nothing, I'm fine."
"Isn't he making you happy?"
"He is. Yeah. He is. Most of the time. It's just uh, complicated." He stammered.
His mother softened at the boys apprehensiveness to his love interest. Catching on it wasn't something he wanted to talk about.
"Hey, you know that if you ever need a break or anything. You can fly back up here. Even if it's for a day or two, we can still go out and have some bonding time. Just promise me you'll think about it."
"Yeah I promise. I promise. I love you momma." He said.
His voice came out wavy and disoriented as the fast running tears down his face started to dehydrate him.
"I love you too darling."
"I have to go. Bye."
He tried his best to stay kept and well put together but his stress landed on him like a piano falling through the sky in a cartoon. He crumpled and fell to the floor, tasting his own salty tears as he cried in a ball on the floor. Hoping one day he'll be able to stand on his own.
A ding from his phone made his head pop up. A text from his mother. He opened it to find a date that haunted his family way too much. She asked if he would be there for the year anniversary. He replied no, simply because the weight on his heart caused by the deaths his sister caused was too much.
June 7th.
His sisters death date.
